OK, the slide was marked with "1984", but I can't actually easily figure out where this image was taken.  America probably (from the cars) and possibly the southern states (the French-ish architecture) but other than that...nowt.

The sign on the wall...too little detail to read it. That logo...distinctive, but...nope.

So, it's a mystery.

I thought I'd be a little verbose, and in response to (almost zero) requests, give an outline of how I research slide locations.

Today's slide was a card-mounted slide, with no makers markings - so it may be that the photographer mounted his own slides. However, the quality makes me think Kodachrome, so... not much dating / location options there.

Written on the slide was "Our Official Greeters in Victoria", so at least I have a city/village. But, there are many "Victoria" locations across the world. The pipers, and the look of the vehicles made me think Canada. And the building in the background - I'm guessing that's "Sand & Gravel".

So, a quick Google for Canada, 1929, Victoria and Sand & Gravel turns up a few options... and "Producers Sand & Gravel Co. (1929) Ltd. of 900 Wharf Street, Victoria, Vancouver Island" looks like a positive hit. And an address ( Yay!).  A check of Google Streetview is ... disappointing.  Looks like there's been a lot of redevelopment over the years, and nothing looks like our building. It does show that the location is very close to the harbour and the sea-plane terminals.

One other link, the sign beside the bagpipers seems to say "Black Ball Line", and Googling reveals that the Black Ball Line is/was a shipping company, who have had operations between Victoria BC and Washington state, USA. So, that links in.

When ?  What sort of cars?   Heck, I can't do everything. The vehicles seems late 1950s / early 1960s to me (not an expert) and that ties in with Black Ball Line, but ... Don't Know. Any help from you readers?

Lions Drag Strip

So evocative of the age.

Lions Drag Strip  was a US raceway in the Wilmington district of Los Angeles, California adjacent to Long Beach that existed from 1955 to 1972. The track was named after its sponsors Lions Clubs International and featured many races that were sanctioned by the American Hot Rod Association (AHRA).

Temple Bar Tandoori

 As I've mentioned (several times) there's a certain enjoyment in looking at a slide, and finding enough clues to locate a slide subject or location.

Today, the float has a partially hidden sign suggesting this is part of The Lord Mayor's Parade - a London event that for some reason is broadcasting on nationwide television. The flag on the left seems to have a Pudsey on it, so it's post 1985.

Some creative searching lead to a Streetview of the location. The Temple Bar Tandoori seems to be still in business, tho' not visible on Streetview. However, the similarity of old/new phone numbers does suggest it's the same business.

The car number plate says (I think) Barnsdall, Oklahoma... which seems rather odd. Either this is the only car in Barnsdall, or this is a promotional photo. Hmmm.

The family at 96 Acacia Avenue, Cleethorpes always looked forward to the arrival of The Broccoli Man. Simon modelled himself on Roger Moore (circa The Saint) and loved bringing a juvenile broccoli  plant to anyone he visited. Not surprisingly, his circle of friends reduced rapidly.
