The Peebles Bull-Ring

 

People usually associate bull-fighting with Spain, Mexico or France, but are often surprised to know of the Scottish experiment with bull-fighting.

The sinking of the Armada on its attempt to sail back to Spain left many Spaniards ship-wrecked and marooned in Scotland. So, adapting to the economic climate, some started Bull-Fighting.

This was the Bull-Ring at Peebles in 1966. By 1970, the bull ring was un-used, and the structure was bull-dozed to create space for another 18-hole Golf Course.

It's probably Nasua, the town in New Hampshire, but more questions than answers.

Yes, the attendees of the Eastbourne Retired Postmen and Post Office Employee Gala Fun Day were rather bemused by "Il Bootleg Bootleg Beatles".

Few of them realised that they were witnessing the birth of Post-Modernism, with an Italian Language Tribute Band, honouring the work of a Tribute Band to the Fab Four.

Bonus -     162 years ago today, the shooting of a pig sparked a war between USA and UK. Local commanding officers on both sides had been given essentially the same orders: defend yourselves, but absolutely do not fire the first shot.  The dispute was resolved by the intervention of Germany.

Before Car Radios...

In the days before the invention of car radios (1974, by Herr Gerhardt Blaupunkt of Dusseldorf), this was the only way to have some music while you drove.

These were the leading car-band in Toledo - The Travelling Troubadours. 1.29 dollars per mile, and no travelling above 40mph.

This one has definite clues to its location. Alas, "El Caballo"  ("The Horse") seems to have been a popular name for Tapas Restaurants, so I've not narrowed the location down any closer than "probably Madrid.".

But in the days before colour television, it was a spectator event to head out and watch the trees change colours before your very eyes.
