Straight out of the box, and scammed...it was terrible. Almost White Above, Black Below.

But, with some careful adjustment of the contrast settings.... it's actually quite pleasant.

It the midst of a large box of typically touristy slide, this slide appeared.

How Exotic!

Can you identify it?

If you muttered "bone", you're on the right track. 

Curious that this bomber was designed to replace the B-52, but the B-52 will probably outlast it.  Nice.

All Aboard the DC-7B

 

Nothing written on this slide, but it's easy to tell that this is a Douglas DC-7 aircraft. 

The DC-7B variant was the first long-range variant with higher gross weight and fuel capacity, with most of the added fuel in saddle tanks in enlarged engine nacelles

The mention of  Falcon Super Coach marks this as one for Eastern Air Lines.

Another slide shows this aircraft has the registration N848D, which helps. It later crashed in 1992, while serving as a water-bomber.

Today's slide was marked as "Hawk Towyn 1980",and even without that I'm sure you recognised the shape and lines of a BAE Hawk Trainer aircraft.

More specifically, a radio controlled scale model of one. And dating from before the days of scale model jet engines (notice the disguised propeller on the nose?)

D3419 Sopwith Camel

 

Or, to be more honest, a Sopwith Camel replica.

Googling suggest that it might belong to the RAF Museum at Cosford, but It's not the Camel that is usually on display.

An increasingly rare sight nowadays. A ramp full of Boeing 747 Jumbo Jets, and very early ones at that.  Air France, Lufthansa, SAS.... ah. Memories.

Nowadays, it would be a bunch of identikit twin-engine aircraft, which even planespotters struggle to identify the different planes.

Spent part of today scanning in some slides - a fairly repetitive, tedious task - and today it's been mainly someone's slides from Soviet Russia.

This, I believe,  is a MiG-17. Slide labelled as "Warsaw to E Berlin, 8-12-87"

Eighty years ago today, France, the United Kingdom, New Zealand and Australia declare war on Germany after the invasion of Poland, forming the Allies.

This, as you probably recognise is a Spitfire 1A, one of the most iconic weapons of war of the era.This is X4590

After the responses to yesterday's AA B727 slide, I thought I have a play with this slide from the same box / set / day / airport.   Unusually, I prefer this slide with some fairly severe image manipulation.  Just sharpness settings...but still ... a bit dramatic.
