From up here you can almost see Common Sense

I don't want to let this Slide Blog degenerate into a Pro- vs Anti- Trump argument, but...  The Zelensky in the White House farce.  FFS.   I "know" that Putin has incriminating info/pictures/videos of Donny Boy, but does DJT need to make it so obvious that he's shilling for Russia?

Sheesh.

This slide, on the other hand, is labelled  "8-11to16 1963 Palouse Valley from Steptoe Butte near Colefax, Wash."

Nativity Scene

A fairly obvious choice of slide for today.

Labelled "1955 Christmas St Pauls", so 69 years old. Wow.

Which doesn't explain why Mary is cradling a suckling piglet, does it.

Bonus -

Today's Yule Lad - Gáttaþefur Doorway Sniffer Has an abnormally large nose and an acute sense of smell which he uses to locate leaf bread (laufabrauð).

No Dogs At The Table?

I knew I could find one. Labelled as "Thanksgiving, 1971".

Clearly, the matriarchs of the family are unhappy that Bobby has Skipper the Dachshund on his lap. No Pumpkin Pie for him.

Meal Out With "The Gang"

Yup, this evening is a meal with the gang. Great.

This image above is NOT an image of us, for so many logical reasons, but I know that the blog followers like to see a vaguely relevant image.

The Guys Admire Franks New Car

Summer 1969, and Frank's bought this years model of the ... well, something.

No doubt it has a big block engine, space for 6 bodies in the trunk, and awallowing nature on corners.

Bonus - Violent pictures of North Korean anti-American propaganda art, 1950-1970

Bruce, in a daring semi-sheer shirt

BRUCE CHUCK DICK JORGE
The only info written on this slide was "Bruce, Chuck, Dick, Jorge", so... I guess that's these guys. This box of  slides had others dated 1949, and I can certainly believe that as a date for this one.  Kodachrome, which explains the excellent colours.

I wonder what happened to them...

Off to the Winter Prom

My understanding of American Teenage Culture of the Sixties, is that everyone was heading off to Proms, Summer Proms, Homecoming Proms, and Weenie-Roasts.

And, even weirder, Proms weren't just an excuse for young ladies to dress up as trainee Porn Stars. How Strange !

Bonus - "Symphony No.9, Boogie" by Matryomin ensemble "Da"

Matryomin?    Invented in 2003 by Japanese theremin player Masami Takeuchi, the matryomin combines two Russian cultural objects: a small theremin and a matryoshka doll. Matryoshka dolls are nesting wooden dolls – as you open one, another is revealed inside.

"Obsessed with Bicycle Clips"

"Obsessed with Bicycle Clips".

I know, that title seems unrelated to this image. However, this morning, I awake suddenly at 4.25am with the phrase "Obsessed with Bicycle Clips" bouncing around my head.

No other memories of dreams, nightmares, or suchlike, and that phrase just remained for the rest of the day (so far).

And Google reveals nothing about that exact phrase.

And the image ?   Marked as

1951 June - Don Taylor before his wedding with Sooke

Bonus -  Beautifying the neighbourhood.

Bonus 2 -  There’s a 12ft tall replica of the Washington Monument under a manhole near the actual monument

The Nativity Show

The staple of every church / school - the annual Nativity Show. Bad acting, crappy acting and insufficient alcohol.

This slide is marked St Paul's Christmas 1955, so that doesn't really help with placing it in space.

One thing, though...

Does Jesus look rather ... long? Especially for a new-born.

Bonus - Scottish Primary School kids design street lights.
