Maude and the Prince of Peace

Good news for fans of Maude Jefferson - She's Back !

Obviously on a religous kick, Maude's visiting what appears to be a religous theme park, tho' Googling reveals no likely suspects.

However, from the absolute 1950's primness, her unconventional looks and serious fashion, sshe makes me think that she's a minor character in John Waters' Cry-Baby. Perhaps Hatchet Face's mother?

Life on The Edge

...of a car park

My first thought was of another 1950's slide of Grand Canyon, but it just doesn't look right. So...the Badlands of South Dakota ?

My second thought almost a Daily Mail thought. I wonder what that car park looks like in 2009? 6 foot high fence, on orders of Elf n Safety, with numerous overflowing trash cans, sponsored by McDonalds?    Who knows...

Nah...Luton Airport

Those of you old enough to remember THAT marketing catch-phrase....Shush. I won't tell anyone either.

From the Schoolkids n easter Holiday selection, and dating from 1973, here we have some of Class 4B preparing to fly off to Ibiza - before it was a clubber's heaven.

Even sadder...I had a parka like that. Until some of the nasty big lads dropped a lit ciggie in the hood...

404 - Slide Not Found

Sorry. Bit of a Geek joke there. This is the 404th slide I've posted.

And a what a fine feisty filly it is. (I gotta admit, that phrase sounds like it should be uttered by Burgess Meredith playing Penguin.)  I wonder what the story behind this pic was. The rest of this box of slides contained no equine images.

Such a Happy Day

Yes, it's easy to sneer and make snide comments about people in the slides, and I guess that's why many (?) people follow the blog, but finding a slide like this make such sarcasm unfair.

Six scrubbed pretty faces, celebrating the happiest of days. Yes, I could speculate at what became of them all, but no. I won't.   Celebrate the beautiful.

BUSTED : It was bound to happen. There is a definite similarity between Sebastian and South Park Boy.    Damn

Hedgehog Close-Up

Sunny day here in TurbineTown : a perfect day for photography. And here's today's wallpaper - Harold's Hedgehog Hysteria kicks in, and Harold just has to get another close up of the spiny little bastards.

APOLOGY : The Slide Guy has been admonishd for referring to hedgehogs as "Spiny little bastards". Quite clearly, hedgehogs are respected members of the British Flora and Fauna, and are not malicious in their spreading of swine flu.

Moody Mandy

Mandy has been persuaded to be a model for her husband Mike's new hobby of photography, and to be honest they're both doing quite well.

Mike's mastered the tricky skills of lighting, exposure, f-stops and shutter-speeds, as this shot proves.

Mandy's mastered the non-chalant look...far better that the cheesy grin she used to flash in every occasion.

I wonder what her expression will be when Mike suggests "Just slip off your sweater love...I'll do a few topless...arty...shots."

Meanwhile in Amsterdam...

Raamdwars Straat to be 100% pernickity.    Looks like we have the work of one of Banksy's predecessors. Which is nice.

Google was unable to turn up any info on this mural, but it did reveal this shot from Raamdwarsstraat. Which is also nice.

Two Guys

Now, I don't want to get all Daily Mail-ish, but these two chaps....I mean it's maybe just the fashions of the day, but do they look...ummm...a bit...you know...umm...yes.  I know.  A Poll.

These two dudes

Babes on the Beach

If you've just arrived here based upon a Google search for Beach Babes and Swimsuits...hello there.   I assume you'll be disappointed by the results.

To my regular viewer...hi.    Mid summer, sunshine and rain....perfect for a day at the beach. Possibly with a fabric bucket on your head !

Picnic with Granma

Annual Bar-B-Q at Big-Iain's tonite, and everyone's invited.

Well, not quite everyone. But a few folk are.

So, to get things in the swing, here's a summery picture of granny and the kids, picnicing beside Lake Wobegon. Let's hope there will be less fighting and depravity at granny's picnic.

Tutu much.

June 14 1955

Is what the slide said, and who can disagree.

This little cutie seems thrilled to be in her tutu, and perhaps she has her recital tonight.

Again, I wonde what became of her.   Ballerina ? Teacher? Home-maker? Aerospace engineer specialising in auditing of electronic controls systems?    Maybe someone out there knows.

The Get-Together

A nice summers day here in...this city, despite what the forecast said. Still, could deteriorate.

So, let's mark it with a summery get together for the Bradshaw clan. Clearly American, the Bradshaws managed toround up all of the relatives who weren't currently in jail, to celebrate the launch of Apollo 11 (forty years ago today, trivia fans). Seems like a good reason to celebrate.

Bonus : Building with road through it.

Portrait of Sky (with people)

OK, another slightly out-of-focus shot...but don't worry, I've got PLENTY of in-focus odd-shots.

So, what was the chap in the centre thinking?    Did he really think that adopting a cheesy pose would make the shot better?  Or is he simply a twit of the first order ?

Bonus :   I think it's real but... wow !

Fifty Years, and Still in Love

Forgive the slight blurry nature, but it's the original photographer's fault.

Just to prove I don't always post odd photos with snide comments, here's a heart-warming slide.

Don't know who, where or when....but does it matter ?

A Seemingly Normal Street

...in a seemingly normal part of town.

And yet, this street hides it's infamy behind a facade of good humour.   It was here (well, over there, just behind the Beetle) that  Lee Harvey Oswald picked up the nickel, that he bought the stamp with, that mailed a letter to The Assassin's Supplyroom, that resulted in the arrival of a Elephant Gun.

But not the gun that shot JFK.   So that's a relief.

Goin' down to South Park

Look !    I've found one of the original modls for Stan an the Guys.

But what the heck is that sculture he's standing beside ?

I Recall When This Was All Fields

Yes. It was last Thursday.

Granny and Gramp visit the new estate, and no doubt gave their views on modern houses, planing, politics, schools, kids, cars, food and what they did during the war.

For any nosey beggars who want to know what the sign over Gramp's shoulder says....

At Your Servile

Majorca, Easter 1971

And I'm not too sure who Mr Sportsjacket is.

Another slide from the box of school Easter cultural coach trip photos, but is the chap in the centre the junior head waiter of the Hotel de Cholera, mugging it up for the camera ?

Or is he the trainee Geography teacher from King Boris XII Comprehensive in East Cheam?

Or is he a particularly old-before-his-time student ( a proto-geek?).

   I'd say Option A.

Tedious Tuesday with Tina

A large glass of sherry, and the joint is jumpin'.  Tina, here seen on the right, let's her hair down for a wild and uninhibited photo session with her "husband" Gerry.

Tina used to be Miss Junior Burbank 1927, but since then has devoted he life to school administration. In 1958, sh had the muscles controlling the facial smile expression removed to allow extra frowning and scowling.

Nice Framing

You know, it's VERY tempting to try and dramatically improve some shots.

OK, I'll admit to a little noise reduction here and there, and the some scratch removal. And maybe a little colour correction.

But composition wise, I don't do much.

But when I get a slide like this....damn. What was the photographer thinking?  Dreadful.

"What's that Flipper?"

"...you say there's a boy stuck down a mine?"

Isn't that something Skippy would say?           What have you done with Skippy?

Bonus : Celebrating (?) Independence Day.

Wilbur's Fish

Seems like a while since the last fishy pic. So...meet Wilbur.

Ladies, Wilbur is a retired mortician, Elder of his Church, and He's looking for lurve.

Try not to think where he practises his kissing technique...

( Oh Noes.  I suspect I've just creeped everyone out.  hehehehe. By way of apologies, enjoy this...)

Ready for the Long Drop

From the "School Easter Holiday in Spain" sets, this is an unidentified roller-coaster, with a bitchin backdrop. Not just the rampant smog, but just imagine if the final drop goes from this level, to the city street level.

Wow.

Wings of Desire

Actually, I don't think this is the Brandenburg Gate in Derlin, or the statue used in Wings of Desire, but goddammitt....it looks a bit like it. Does anyone want to edumacate me on where/what?

Oh, again, you can use this pic as a wallpaper calendar.
