Japanese School Trip

Even with the timeless Japanese Sailor Schoolgirl uniforms, there's something rather old-fashioned about today wallpaper. For one thing, the boys are uniformed as well, the teacher's wearing a hat (!) and the skirts are not obscenely short.   Early 1970's I believe.

Moose and Mini-Moose

I used to work with a woman who was obsessed with Mooses.  Well, not really obsessed, but likes them and collects toy ones.  I wonder if this slide / title might attract her to the Blog.

Hi Jo !

Travis Bickle - and Mom.

You know, that IS a very distinctive hair-style. If it's not a slightly chubbier Travis Bickle, it could be a close relation.

Bonus - No, it's NOT allowed.

Rocky Mountain High

I figured out what Google needs to create next - a location finder.

I upload a picture, and the Google-Pixies head off and search their database of everything looking for mountains with the same shape, or rivers with the same bends etc. It then tells you where the photo is, and when the photographer took it. (You know, compare the amount of foliage and direction of the shadows.)

I know I'd use it.

Bonus - Stupidest Goal Celebration ever.

Look !! A Ship !!!

So, Tedious Tuesday is upon us again, and another ho-hum slide from the collection is on display.

The Navy ship involved - Classified

The Navy ship being photographed - Classified

The Island that they're off-shore of - Classified.

The ocean involved? - Arctic.

(Only kidding. That's Classified information as well.)

The Well-Dressed Stalker

It's amazing the difference a few decades can make. This is Harry "Snapper" Organs, the scourge of Esher. Harry was a Paparazzi before the term was even invented, using his camera to capture the wife-swapping culture prevalent in Esher in the 60's.

Of course, Harry would never to actually sell his pictures to the tabloids of the day. Harry was a gentleman.  Or a bit of a perve. Not really sure which.

Bonus - Speaking of tabloids, I wonder if the Daily Star wrote this themselves, or was it presented as a Fait Accompli ??

The Hip Geography Teacher

Say hi to Doug.

Doug is, or rather was, the trendiest teacher at Trenton Technical High School. Even when setting up a nature trail, there's nothing stopping him donning his favourite organic leather jacket.  Groovy.

Doesn't he look like Tim, Reggie Perrin's pompous prig of a son-in-law.

Road Trip

I had a bit a road trip to Buxton today, for a Craft Fair at the Derbyshire Dome - first time I'd seem it in real life - impressed.

So this slide is slightly appropriate, tho' a trip to Buxton is on a whole different (Smaller) scale. The slide does remind me of the saturated photography of Paris Texas, so I may have to watch that tonight. So, is Harry Dean Stanton the coolest actor ever?

Bonus - Disney, Donald Duck and The Nazis

The Cloisters

We're so used to seeing Gothic/medieval churches and cathedrals, with their intricate detailing, it's a surprise to see the absolute simplicity of some monasteries. This one, for example, with absolutely no identifying details, seems to echo the simplicity of the monks lives.

I thought all you architectre buffs might like that.

Another Hollings Fashion Show

Another Sunday, another Hollings Fashion Show slide, another bunch of pretty girls in fashionable clothes. Fashionable for the 1980's, I should add.

Bonus - I do try to avoid just embedding YouTube videos, (it's just too easy) but sometimes I succumb. Especially when Cyriak does his stuff. Crazy dude.

The Monorail Now Arriving...

... will contain your choice of soup.

Yes, this is North Haverbrook's attempt to establish itself as the hippest vacation resort in the state. The combined Corden Bleu Restaurant and Rail Depot, had it all : windows, tables, menus...but the star attraction was the monorail that would bring the cooked food from Ogdenville. It's wasn't a success, and Lyle Lanley skipped town soon after.

Bonus - Not everyone's choice as a pet. Solifugae

In The Days Before PhotoShop

Creative photography was so much trickier. Artistic shots like this one must have been a reall ball-ache to achieve. In the bottom right is a signature...

...which appears to be W Marynowicz, which leads to it possibly being the work of this bloke. At least one other slide in that batch is one of his processed photo's. I wonder if the rest are his ??

Granny's Little Treasure

Before he made big as an NFL Quarterback, Tom Brady was Granny Wilson's little darling. Even now, the feel of turquoise velour gives him an odd feeling.

(Oh, and no. This picture probably isn't Tom Brady. Nosirree, that's probably someone completely different.)

The Grower

You know, when I'm relaxing on the beach, there's nothing better than reading the latest Blockbuster. Danielle Steele, Enid Blyton, Stephen King or the latest Harry Potter.

Or even The Grower.

Bloomin' Eck. Is that....

...Fred West ?      You know, that cheery serial killing builder.    Unfortunately, that stone plaque's inscription is unreadable (out of focus)  but wouldn't it be fascinating to know where it was?

And if you think that's frightening, try this.
