Before The Par-Tay

Another year, and another 365 posts. Heavens...doesn't time fly !

As you can expect, I receive many hundreds of invitations to New Years Eve parties, and there's no way that I can keep everyone happy. So, here's a quick snap of myself (Slim bloke in white tuxedo) and my beloved Mildred (Black Taffeta and Opera Gloves) beside the Hogmany Tree, loaded with presents.

We'll be off to the Swadlincote and District Working Men's Institute for their fabulous Combined Hogmany Party and Nit Nurse Consultation. And an excellent time will be had by all.

Bob, Belinda and Betty on the Beach

Enjoying a sunny day on the spilt gravel for the three chums. Protected from the harsh sun by a thick layer of smog, there's nothing like a quite like beer-fuelled session in beautiful downtown Burbank.

Bonus - Kraftwerk The Man Machine.

Car Show

Y'know, sometimes I end up with a very acceptable slide shot.

Could be an accident, could be inspiration, but for whatever reason, I think this is an excellent shot.

Hello Cheeky

Here's one youngster who's not feeling the cold.

I wander who they are, and whether the publication of "Nude Photos from their Innocent Past" will affect their careers.

So, if anyone recognises that arse - is it Simon Cowell, or Hilary Clinton, or Delia Smith, or Harvey Keitel....please let me know.

Windows Background - XP Pasture Edition

Its debatable whether this is an apt Tedious Tuesday slide - it's pleasant , focussed and correctly exposed. It could well be an alternative to the standard MS Windows XP hill  wallpaper.

Whatever Happened To...

As Little Mix won this years Strictly Come Ice Factoring, Get Me Out of Here, it prompted some unusual thoughts in my brain.

No, not those sort of thoughts. I was wondering whatever happened to the Talent Show Winners of years gone by.

Today's slide is of  the winners of Kansas's Got Talent, 1927...as pictured in 1963. These plucky three characters are the surviving members of the entertainment sensations "The Aristocrats".

If you haven't heard of their act, well.... Google with Extreme Discretion...

Bonus - Commemorate the life of the Late Kim Jong Il

The Fantastic Mr Fox

Well, maybe I need to encourage more visitors to my humble blog.

Doesn't look like your standard British Fox, so might well be a Fennec Fox. (Actually, the ears are too small, but the mention of Fennec Foxes allows me to post this bonus.)

PARTY ON DUDES!!!

Yes, it's the season for Office Parties, and this dude looks like he's going to regret his comments to the Head of Human Resources.

However, not every company makes an effort. Some local, world renowned, engineering companies don't give a gnat's chuff about their staff at Christmas. Especially gal;ling when said company whinges about lack of staff flexibility. Bah Humbug.

A Minimalist Christmas

There's something admirably sparse about this person's Christmas decorations : two chairs, and no fluffiness or tinsel overload (Tinselitis?)

However, Roxanne has remembered to leave out the Red Light in the window...

Belinda's Beehive Bouffant

A sadly neglected hairstyle in the 2000, the Beehive was an American institution for many decades, surviving thanks to the efforts of Peg Bundy, The B-52's, Audrey Hepburn and Amy Winehouse.

To be honest, I doubt if there's any other thing they would have in common.

Bonus - Kate and Cindy....  How about one of my favourite singles of all time.   Give Me Back My Man

A Load of Seamen

From a bunch of slides from the mid fifties, some of which were marked "French Indochina", so this does possibly mark the start of the Vietnam War.

Waiting for the Parade

I have a load of slides of street parades, and often I'm more interested in The Normal Folk, the families lining the street watching the freaks, the exhibitionists and the show-offs. Finally, some photographer dares to show the real people, waiting for the inevitable parade.

A Date That Will Live In Infamy

Not one of the best slides I've featured, but a date-appropriate one.

I was surprised the number of folks at work who didn't realise that today is the 70th Anniversary of Pearl Harbour, so here's a shot of the USS Arizona memorial.

Bonus. Never EVER Give Up

Clouds over Upminster

Tedious Tuesday strikes again, and this one is a real snooze-fest.  Interesting clouds, but nothing else.

But where is it?  The industrial unit in the foreground seems to belong to Machin and Kingsley, and they were a cardboard box manufacturers, operating in Upminster Essex, from 1985 to 1999.

Now That's Tedious.

Bonus : On the other hand, this monologue is by Rob Newman, and covers history, oil, Iraq, WW1 and Picasso.     Very interesting...

Cloigtheach

From a set of slides from a trip to Ireland, this appears to be one of the mysterious, enigmatic round towers of Ireland. Commonly referred to as Cloigthithe, modern thinking veers to the theory that they were an aristocratic penile boast, in the days before sportscars.

Bonus - Howlin' Wolf - House Rockin' Boogie. Awsome !

A Man Needs His Wheels

You need wheels (as the Merton Parkas said)  if you want to make deals. However, Howard here doesn't seem impressed by his new ride - the Super Scooty Deluxe Cart Plus (with optional convertible pack) just doesn't measure up against his previous Dodge Wanger muscle-car.

Bonus - Not the sharpest tool in the police toolbox.

Soviet Spying Mission

Of course, it looks like an inept souvenir photograph ... that's what they want you to think.

However, I'm convinced that this is a secret soviet spying mission to show the super secret submarine pens of South Central Chicago. (Not easy to say after a glass of Chablis)

Notice that these Julius and Ethel  wannabe have managed to disguise their identities behind ridiculous hats and shades.  Execute the treacherous buzzards!

Jennie - Posing on a Rock

No wonder she looks a little nervous. Persuaded  by fiancé Ricky to jump into a car and head out into the desert for some glamour photographs.
She's seen those B-Movies, and knows how it can end. Yet, she trusts Ricky. Usually.

I wonder what happened next.

Return of The FLKs

Funny Looking Kids, I say !

Now lookee here, this ole slide may be out-of, ah say, out-of-focus, and more fungus covered than an Arkansas bootleg still, but you shoo can tell that these funny looking kids had brother and sister parents.  In-bred ahm saying.

(Sorry. Don't know why I slipped into Foghorn Leghorn mode.)

Bonus -  “If you wake up at a different time, in a different place, could you wake up as a different person?”  Fight Club (1999)

Awaiting Grandma

Not exactly a "Funny Looking Kid" post, but cute and kiddy-ish nonetheless.

Grandma's landed (in a Delta DC-8, I think, rather than a broomstick) and the family's turned out to welcome her. What I find charming is that going to collect grandma in the sixties was still an event to dress up in Sunday Best for. Nowadays, it would be jeans and a t-shirt.

Fascinating lack of security as well.

Bonus - Open Hand Bottle Cavitation Explode Technique explained and demonstrated for any martial arts fans out there.  May not work with beer cans.

Back to the Tedium

After the excitement of JFK day, how better to entertain the hundred of new Blog-Followers than....

A delayed Tedious Tuesday slide. Today (Weary Wednesday?) we feature the pre-match entertainments are the sell-out Unknown vs Don't Know Gridiron match.

Maybe tomorrow we'll have a Funny Looking Kid slide...

Bonus - I saw this a couple of days ago, and saved it for use. However, it appears to have gone viral...even appearing in the Daily Mail (nsfw). I feel so dirty, but here's are the Warriors of Goja

JFK Original Grave.

As soon as I scanned this slide, I realised that there was something different about this slide. But.... it wasn't really obvious what.

OK, with hindsight, it's obvious. But it took a while for an idea to blossom, then some Google-Fu confirmed it.

This is a view of John F Kennedy's original grave at Arlington Cemetery. As usual Wikipedia has more info, but  in summary : JFK  was shot on 22-11-1963 (48 years ago today) and the initial plan for a Hollywood burial was replaced by the Arlington Cemetery plan.  He was buried there on 25-11-1963, and at Jacqui's request there was an Eternal Flame installed. (I suspect the boxy structure in the background is the Propane Tank.

In March 1967, the bodies (JFK and two children) were moved to the new permanent grave.

Bonus - no doubt someone will complain but - a date appropriate song.  A Punk Classic.

Where California Began

Yes, another Parade Float.

Yes, it IS rather impressive. I suspect that the main structure of this 'ere float is made up of flowers, just like in the Passadena Rose Parade.

As far as I can make out, the motto on the front (rear?) of the float is "Where California Began", so I guess the photo was taken....In America !!!!

Bonus - Childish fun at the expense of Wikipedia's Jimmy Wales.
