Girl with a Big Gun

There are plenty websites features gun-toting glamour models (example, NSFK), and those naughty scamps The Cramps did have a song about, umm, Bikini Girls With Machine Guns, but it takes the Japanese Film Industry to take it to the illogical conclusion.

My version, unsurprisingly, is far more wholesome.

The Fred Farkel Family Fashion Extravaganza

I'm sure you'll remember Fred Farkel, and the Fickle Finger of Fate. Or maybe not. Well, you've got to appreciate their fashion sense.

Here they are on a trip to the Giant Rock of Bundy County, and it's Freda Farkel who grabs the headlines, by squeezing her amply-cushioned posterior into a extreme-flared denim jumpsuit. Stylish, and due to make a comeback in the next YSL Catwalk Show.

Mercury-Redstone 3

I might be mistaken, but I think this family is visiting the Mercury-Redstone 3 re-entry vehicle. Better known as Freedom 7, this was the space craft that carriewd the first American into space. If you want some info, well, you could try Wikipedia.

Cousin Charlene?

I know use this comic suggestion way too often, but seriously. Isn't that a bloke in a dress?

The broad shoulders, the strong forehead...it's a man !

Whether it's a perversion or an FBI undercover agent or maybe a witness protection programme initiative, I don't know. But I'm sure it's more likely that's Charles not Charlene.

Cafe Slut

Cafe Caliente. But, if my knowledge of Spanish slang is up to par, Caliente is slang for "street-walker".

So, old Mildred in the picture isn't really sending out the right message.

In fact, the Caliente problem has affected bigger corporations than this cafe.

What sort of prehistoric, obscure monster lives in Lake Wanashatahanee, Maine ?

Fish.

Loads of fish, living in murky, silty waters, and so impoverished that they form a feeding frenzy for bread.

A Life On The Ocean Wave

Maybe the slide colours have faded slightly in the decades since processing, or maybe it was a true reflection of the atmospheric conditions. Either way, I really like the colours in this slide, and I hope you do too.

Bonus Was discussing epic sea voyages at work yesterday, and this cropped up. Well, I found it fascinating.

The Abattoir Hotel, Bermuda

If you're looking for local colour, then The Abattoir Hotel, Bermuda is the place to head for. (Providing that you don't mind the colour red.) The hotel is built on the site of the 17th century slaughterhouse, and incorporates many features of the original building. It certainly provides a surprise if you complain about the service.

The Denuded Forest

In previous weeks, I've posted Tedious Tuesday pics which could actually be described as slightly interesting. Today's slide I hope, returns to the true meaning of Ted Tues. Boring pics.

Winter trees, with a dearth of leaves.

It's a shock to the system, I know, but I'll soften the blow with a pseudo-infra-red version of the same shot.

Not much better really.

New Zealand, I Guess

This could have been another "Where In The World" quiz, but basically I have no definitive answer.

But New Zealand would be head of list of probables. I'd base it on the to UK-Style cars, parked on the left hand side of the road, and the union flag on the flag pole. However, the "Copra Buyers" sign suggests a Pacific region.

But the two kickers :

  1. "Elf Service" - clearly this must be where Peter Jackson filmed Lord Of The Rings,
  2. The "Building Materials" and "Liquor" combination within what is basically a shed reminds me of "Once Were Warriors". (Awesome movie, BTW, and Jake The Mus would wop any Bruce Lee types in a fight.)

Flamingos In Flight

Flamingos are bit of an enigma. Their spectacular coloration come from their diet, as most folk know. However, it actually derives from the Blue-Green Algae (and crustacean) rather than carrots.

It is also the Official State Bird of New Brunswick, and adopted as a mascot by the Belgian Paratroop Corp. How odd.

Swales of Clitheroe

( Beware - Larger than usual image if you click.)

The memories come flooding back. No, not of Clitheroe I hav never even been there or suffered from an attack of Clitheroes. I mean the ice cream van, and especially its stock.

  • Ice cream, obviously, including cones and sliders (wafers to you)
  • Old-Style Pepsi tins. I bet they preceded ring-pulls.
  • Beef and Onion Golden Wonder crisps.
  • Cigarettes. Yes, Capstan and Embassy fags. You don't see that nowadays... ;o)

Ho Hum A Church !!

To complement yesterday's interesting architecture / good photo, here's the other extreme.

What looks like a nice little english village church, in a well exposed slide. However, the composition is atrocious. No foreground interest, too much featureless sky. Too little detail in the subject.

3 out of 10...could do better.

Bonus : Have a game of Red Remover !

It's Architecture Time !

A very black slide, with no information on it. Which is a pity, as I rather like this structure.

I'm guessing it's a public building, and the geometrical style make me thing Islam or the Middle East. Or maybe Moorish influences in Spain.

Anyone got an educated guess??

Bonus - Continuing the architecture theme... Detroit in ruins

Bergtal Mennonite Church - 6 Miles

People sometimes ask me "SlideGuy, how do you come up with titles for your BlogSpurts?" and I tell them "It's difficult. Sometimes I just stare into a cup of coffee and after several hours, I receive inspiration from...somewhere."

This slide is a perfect example : for some unknown reason, I was drawn to Bergthal Mennonite Church, which suggests that there's been some change in spelling since the slide was taken.

Apologies for the odd hue, but that's Ektachrome for you ! Three chaps taking a break from a wild party, and they've found a suitable corner for a chat, beer and smokes. However, it's the wild curtains I notice - apparently of a weaving / spining detail of the Bayeux Tapestry. Classy.

Happy New Year, Folks

Happy New Year, and all that guff. Woo, a new year... it's gonna be great (etc, etc, etc)

But let's not forget that the whole evening of debauchery wouldn't be possible without people working in bars, homes, power stations, hospitals etc/ And in my case, I was waited on by my team of Filipino Housekeeper for the whole night. I'm no monster, if you're worrying, I did let them celebrate the arrival of 2011 - just at midnight Filipino time. And by 'eck, did the girls (and ladyboy - as I discovered) appreciate their five minutes of relaxation.

Bonus - Happy Dog
