Being a construction of your humble blogger Tepid Halibut, with the aim of posting one vintage slide image per day, from now until Kingdom Come. (Or until Mr Halibut gets bored.)

Snapping the Snapper
It seems to be one of the main tropes of the slide photographer. A picture of a photographer taking a photographer. Heck, I think I've even done that and I'm a world class photographer !! (I doubt I'd have found such a hippy chick as this, but hey...that's the 70s for you.)
Bonus - Oh, those naughty shop assistants !

Meanwhile, in Upstate NY...
Nice to see an atypical Niagara shot.
Bonus - Birthday cake. Maybe just blown out the candles. Maybe deeply unimpressed.
Bonus 2 - This is awesome. Children's drawings turned into plush toys. :o)

Mr Smug. And his Leica
An visit to a bird sanctuary by the East Grinstead Bank Manager's Association, and Mr Gerald Duff (Asst Mgr, Barclays) takes the opportunity to show off his Leica.
The chap on the right remind me of Trevor - a former neighbour. Summer time, and he's risking it outdoors with a shirt, tie, jumper, tweed jacket and sheepskin coat. Bet he's wearing a vest as well.
Bonus. - Act natural, and walk away looking innocent....
Bonus 2 - Cats. Always prepared.

Widow's Walk
More architectural education, building fans.
The walkway between the two chimneys is what was known as the Widow's Walk / Watch, and especially prevalent on NE American sailing communities. A popular romantic myth holds that the platform was used to observe vessels at sea. The name is said to come from the wives of mariners, who would watch for their spouses' return, often in vain as the ocean took the lives of the mariners, leaving the women widows.
Alternatively, beyond their use as viewing platforms, they are frequently built around the chimney of the residence, thus creating access to the structure. This allows the residents of the home to pour sand down burning chimneys in the event of a chimney fire in the hope of preventing the house from burning down.
Bonus - Dalek Relaxation.

Fresh Roasted Peanuts
A world long gone.
Nowadays, this hot snack seller would be close down b y "elf n safety" clip-boarding council officials (© Daily Mail) before the first peanut emerged from the roaster.
Bonus - Street Art
Bonus 2 - even without sounds, JB is awesome.

Train at Altitude
Most odd.
From a box of slides with world-wide locations, but none labelled. However, there were other slides with a distinct Peru / South America / Inca / Macchu Pichu feel to them.
So, my assumption is that this is from a trip on one of Bolivia / Peru's high altitude train services, and the "doctor" is dispensing oxygen to those who need it. Just a guess, but if you know more....
Bonus - OMG. That was unexpected. No fatalities ;oO
Bonus 2 - Other end of the scale...Feed The Kitty ;o) (Great name for a dog, BTW)

Tropicana, Las Vegas
I was going to spend some time on cleaning us this rather messy slide, but a/ it can't be bothered, and b/ it does rather suit the down at heel style of Las Vegas in the sixties.
I also appreciate the names of some of the featured artists - I may have to change my name by deed poll to Maynard Sloate.
Bonus -

Someone got a new haircut in preparation for their confirmation at church. Doesn't look too cheerful about it, but that may just be a squint due to the sunshine.

What is it with Americans and pictures of them holding fish? Is it some form of Thanksgiving Ritual?
Bonus - Meanwhile on the lazy Saigon River...
Tuesday 10 April 2012
Plant and Chair
The return of Tedious Tuesday. The day when the hundreds of "The Slide Guy" followers collectively gasp and say "Why??". Who would need a picture of a chintzy chair and a potted aspidistra. (Unless it was The Rangdo, obviously.)
Bonus - Why, oh why, does this exist? . A $1100 GOLD PLATED PROSTATE MASSAGER, WITH MATCHING GOLD CUFF LINKS...
Bonus 2 - The Joys of Spring.

Bonus - North Korea's magnificent machines: The tractor simulator
Friday 6 April 2012
The View From Golgotha
To mark Good Friday, I suppose this is a suitable biblical view.
What strikes me as odd is the timeless scenery, and a Old Testament priest apparently drinking a cup of petrol, freshly poured from a "flimsy". Odd
Bonus - Friends
Bonus 2 - Worst Album Covers of All Time

The Quivering Pheasant
Coincidentally, the name of one-hit wonders in 1972. Had a number 5 hit with "Woops, there go my trousers".
