Bonnie Scotland

As today is St Andrew's Day, I thought I'd post a slide of Bonnie Scotland.

If my geography is as good as my translation ability, I'd say this is taken just outside Dundee.

The Happy Family

There are sometimes when a perfect slide turns up. Well posed, well focused, well lit and most rarely, the baby's facial expression is joyous.

Such slide do not deserve to be mocked.

Mierda !

With my extensive training in foreign languages, I can translate for you.

The road sign says "Take Care when Crossing", and the friendly greeting in spray-paint says "Enjoy". Clearly the local lads are happy to welcome us into their hovel.

Which is nice.

Teepee or Wigwam ?

Last night, I was sorting out next years calendars. (Anyone interested??)

This one would have been up for consideration, but at full resolution, it was just a bit too unfocussed.

So, let's have a game of Teepee of wigwam. Which do you think it is??

Well, that's who the slide says it is, so who am I to disagree.

The snowy scene seems appropriate when the US is suffering from extreme weather.

The Keep

A History Lesson.

Since the 16th century, the English word keep has commonly referred to large towers in castles. The word originates from around 1375 to 1376, coming from the Middle English term kype, meaning basket or cask, and was a term applied to the shell keep at Guînes, said to resemble a barrel. The term came to be used for other shell keeps by the 15th century. By the 17th century, the word keep lost its original reference to baskets or casks, and was popularly assumed to have come from the Middle English word keep, meaning to hold or to protect.

The Beautiful Game

From the same set as yesterday....while the girls were at the seaside, the lads decided to have a game of footie. No need for "Jumpers for GoalPosts", but there was definitely a need for a decent photographer.

Glug, Glug, Glug

Seems like a while since the last slide from The School Trip at Easter selection.

So, here we have one. From the Easter 1973 trip to Ibiza, and well before the island became Party Central.

Two teenagers, one glugging down a quantity of... well, maybe red wine, maybe coke, maybe sppme local product. With Teacher taking teh photos, I suspect it isn't Guinness.

Bonus - That was Slide Number 2307. I wonder what googling for 2307 will turn up.

Catechism of the Catholic Church

2307 The fifth commandment forbids the intentional destruction of human life. Because of the evils and injustices that accompany all war, the Church insistently urges everyone to prayer and to action so that the divine Goodness may free us from the ancient bondage of war.

Which is nice.

A Débutante Descending Into Hades

There. I can't believe that there are many blog posts with that title.

What went wrong with this slide ? I think it was a problem with the flash. More focused than the lens on the camera.

Or maybe the young lady was being  sucked down into the underworld.  Which is nice.

The Henderson House

From the shape of the shingles, and the colour of the White Picket Fence, I'm  thinking that The Henderson House is now "Ambrosia Historic Bed & Breakfast Retreat" in good old British Colombia.

And Google suggest it's not changed much.

Where In The World?

You've probably guessed where this one was taken, without me even listing the possibilities.

And you were probably wrong.

It's actually in Loughborough. In the 1920's, Loughborough was promoting itself as "The Paris Of The Midlands", and planned to attract tourists with its 5/8th scale model of the Arc de Triomphe.

The scheme was not a success, and the structure was dismantled in 2003, to be replaced by (oh, the ignominy) a McDonalds.

Continuing the Halloween-ish type postings - here's today's slide.

I don't know what it is, but I can imagine it appear in my next nightmare. (Along with a swimming pool full of puppies, each with the face of an 18th Century politician...and the one with the face of Lord Palmerston is screaming "Where Are The Spoon?  Where Are The Ruddy Spoons??")
