When in Rome

Now, I'm not saying that this is Rome, but it sure looks like it. Perhaps there's some city i Idaho that's been built to look like Rome,

I'm also slightly creeped out by Mrs Dolly Frankenschmitt filming my every move.

A Pair of Wiseguys

It's tempting to launch into some schtick about these two "American - Italian Legitimate Businessmen", calling them out on their excellent tailoring, snazzy headgear (and awesome ties) but the truth is that these could quite legitimately be a school janitor and a real estate broker in their Sunday Best.

Bonus - It's 67 years since a liner was hit by an iceberg while on it's maiden journey, and sunk with all hands.

Bonus 2 - Not their best song, but I do like the reuse of a footage for this video. Great title too.

Gracias Alberto Lleras

I like street scenes like these. No info about the location, but so many details and clues in the pictures. From the "Gracias Alberto Lleras" banner, I'm assuming this is from Colombia,

The flags outside the church look like Colombia's.   Lleras was Prex in the 50's and 60's, and the cars look like 1950's ones...which would fit.

There is a Cyrano Pasteleria in Bogota, but Google suggests that it's not the same one as in the slide.

Strike Up The Band

What a curious slide.

Yes, it's indistinct and blurred, but.... what's the story.

I'm guessing someone woke up, and heard a military band playing the national anthem of Bogatumnia.
A peak outside showed this - the national army band awaiting the arrival of el Presidente - arriving for some nooky with his floozie. A snatched photo before the security guards arrived, and....

Any better suggestions?

Bonus - Just noticed that Dale "Buffin" Griffin died a few days ago. :-(      If you don't recognise the name, well - Mott, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, John Peel.
So, enjoy this

Chubby Little Toddler

One of my regular visitors (yes, there are some) recently commented that I haven't been posting slides of Chubby Little Toddlers recently.

And they were right.

So, have a picture of a Chubby Little Toddler.

The Sloping Sky

Not a particularly tedious slide for a Tuesday, but not great photography.

A sloping horizon and questionable exposure are the obvious flaws, but there's also some camera shake and a load of dirt.

T'is a pity.

And yet, with a little effort, it can be improved. But never to Calendar Quality.

Hello Seattle

Seeing this slide prompted an odd thought.

It's interesting just how much of the USA people recognise from Sit-Coms. It this case, an occasional viewing of Frasier let me confidently spot this rather fine image of the Space Needle.

A quick trip to Wiki reveals the astounding fact that it was built in just under 8 months. Impressive.

"Some More ... Folk Dancing."

( I'm sure some of you might recognise that film quote....)

This slide shows the climax of The Dance of the Heroic Tractor Builders.

...and in the Talent section....

Overexposed, but Meh!.  I don't mind.

This another slide from a 1974 Beauty Contest - seemingly Miss America from the St Petersburg Bayfront Center.  However, Google doesn't support this.

So, slip off your slingbacks, and dance your way to success.

Achilles

Oh Gosh.
    This brings back memories.

Bad memories.

Memories of going thru' box after box of interminable slides of statues, art and museums. And transcribing the info from the slide mounts.

For example :

"Achilles Innocenzo Ferito Fraccaroli 1805-82 milan 1"

But you will have guessed the subject from the arrow in the heel.

Float On

Another slide from the 74th Tournament of Roses , so a suitable description.

Bonus - Since a group of around a dozen armed militants took over a federal building on a remote wildlife reserve in Oregon to protest government "tyranny" earlier this month, the public's response has been less than sympathetic. After an appeal, the public are sending them supplies. Including Dildos and Lube.

Yay ! Friday !!

I reckon that that's a good enough excuse for a drink or three.

Cheers.

Bonus - Stop Motion and A Sander. Great Results.

Dam!

As usual, there's no info about the subject, but nonetheless, I find the image strangely satisfying.

Hope you do too.

Bonus - Magic. You want magic?
How about some sleight of hand from Cardini?

Fuscia. Definitely Fuscia

Good Lord !    That is a bight colour.

Just imagine how eye-wateringly bright that would be if the slide hadn't degraded with time.

My fashion advisor advising me that the colour isn't Shocking Pink, it's Fuscia.

Bonus - Quote of the Day- After being reprimanded by a friend for playing the part of a prostitute in the film Blood Money, actress Frances Dee replied “I played a masochistic nymphomaniacal kleptomaniac, not a prostitute.”

Bonus 2 - NSF...  well, actually technically safe.

Playtime in the Park

Parks, People, Picnics ... but still the slide plunges into the depths of tedium.

At least it's in focus !

...Tom realised that he wouldn't really miss his Mother-In-Law.

R.I.P. David Bowie.

I had previously theorised that David Bowie was the real Dorian Grey, but I guess that's been disproven...

At The Dude Ranch

Today ... I went to see The Hateful Eight, and it was excellent (unsurprisingly) and this scene reminded me of Minnie's Haberdashery.

Junior Psycho

Title says it all. A junior psychopath.

Probably in jail by now.

Bonus - This is slide number 2707, a number that will intrigue all plane nuts out there. Boeing 2707

Bonus 2 - A very effective advert.

Ten Green Bottles

Just bought a new scanner, and that's prompted me into starting scanning the HUGE slide backlog.

So, from the new scanner, here's a 1982 vintage slide - of a Women's Institute Sale. Logic appears to have flown out the window, as they appear to be more than ten, not all are green, and not all at bottles.

Still, it's a great slide.

Bonus - WTF Part 1
Man drowns himself in Austrian lake using concrete block with wife's head inside.

Bonus - WTF Part 2
Girls and Tanks.

Curtains for The Slide Guy

No !   No, I'm not giving up the blog.

Despite an avalanche of emails from Mrs Trellis of North Wales, I won't devote my life to something more worthwhile.

The blog post title merely alludes to this marvellously tedious slide.
