Tombs

Sometimes a photographer will write some useful notes on a slide. That can help with date / location / subject.

On this slide was written "tombs".

Cheers mate. Very useful.

Bonus - Maybe they mean Francis, Lord Tombs took the picture.

Bonus 2- Well, I say !

Charlie and Bob

Today, the lads are preparing for the "Four Laps of the Back Garden" racing challenge.

While the trike might have the straight line speed, the dumper truck has the all-important stability and traction for the muddy corner beside the Geraniums.

A Pinny, and a Disapproving Glance

It's clear, from that withering glance, that Mrs Brady had taken deep offence at something that Mrs Wilson (arm, left) has said. We could speculate, but we don't know for sure.

Moo

You might see today's slide as a rather average slide of two Aberdeen Angus bulls staring thru' some barbed wire.

Me, being an artist, sees the ideal image for the cover Coldplay's next crowd-thrilling CD.

Well.... I'm not selling it to you, Chris Martin. You're just not worth it.
Bonus : Fantastic news in the field of animal research. Penguins on a treadmill: study shows fat ones fall over more often than slim ones. With Video !

Chapel of St Margaret of Scotland

Yes, another deeply tedious slide.

This time, a church-related one.

You'll recall that St Margaret of Scotland was also called Margaret of Wessex.   And was born in Hungary.  Bloody Immigrants !

Bonus - Sadly, Eric "Winkle" Brown has died. He certainly led a fascinating life - especially if you're a aviation nut.

Keep Florida Green

From the age and fuel efficiency of that car, I'm guessing the Keep Florida Green license plate is not an ecological message.

The Golden Dam

Difficult to get a sense of scale with this slide, but I believe that that is a Damned huge Dam.

With a lovely golden sheen to it.

Bonus - Put your faith in the Lord and.... damn.

How Infuriati .... A-Ha!!

I was just about to post a whinge about finding a quaint little  building on a slide, and how infuriating it was that I couldn't find out where it was in real life....when

POW !

The Squirrels who live in my brain whispered some secret squirrel info, and I was led to this picture.

How Remarkable. And More Here

Bonus - Ice + Tides = Awesome !

The Amazing Mr Talbot

This is a rare picture of the frankly astonishing Mr Gabe Talbot, of Muncie in Indiana State.

In the early 1960's Mr Talbot displayed his inexplicable ability to teleport from one location to another.

Obviously, he's not displaying this ability in this slide, but I have it on good authority that he could have, if he wanted.

Cordonnerie

Well, that's a dull slide.

Miles from Many Places

I like challenges like this. No info on the slide, but where in the world was this?

Well, I have to assume that teh distances are roughly correct, and I realised that the distances aren't in miles.

So ... I suspect the location is here.

Denim Double

It's been a while since the last Hollings Fashion Show slide, so let's fix that with this lovely shot. Two stylish and practical examples of Denim Couture. Or something.

Bonus - Sounds like the ideal pet.

Bonus 2 -  Well, it's Valentines Day.

More Oxygen, Madam?

In a mixed box of slides, I found some slides of Machu Picchu, and this one. It's a guess, but I reckon this slide is from a related Andes-related transport.

Or maybe some professional Glue-Huffing offer from British Rail.

Say Cheese

That's the marvellous thing about Kodachrome.

This slide is from 1952, and needed no image tweaking. Yes, over sixty years old, and the slide still has majestic colours.

This slide does have some info - "June 1952, Jean and Marty". Whether Jean and Marty and the Kids or the Parents- I know not. But, thank you for the image.

Bonus - Fishing Dog.

The Native American Conga

This shouldn't really be a Tedious Tuesday slide, but there's just too little detail.

It appears to be a First Nations Tribal Dance of some sort, at a rural rodeo. But, it could be a performance of The Lambeth Walk.

Still, there's a detailed section of it, if you're interested.

North Carolina - Variety Vacationland

Yes, North Carolina has it all. It's the ideal Variety Vacationland, whether you want trees and lakes, trees and golf courses, trees and hills or lakes and plants... NC has it.

Waiting for the High Tide

This may look like a family mucking around with the kids, but it's actually a sadder story. After mis-hearing a report on the radio, this extended family evacuated to the dinghy, and are awaiting the Tsunami.
They didn't leave the dinghy for 8 days, by which time, they were the source of ridicule throughout the neighbourhood.

The Shifty Groom

Just had an email from my Sis about the arrangements for her Wedding, so this slide seems slightly appropriate.

No... Not that implying that her other half is shifty - far from it.

But, I guess I'm in danger of digging myself deeper...

Before - and After

For a change, a little insight into the work of The Slide Guy.
Not every slide arrives in pristine condition, as you can see.
Scanning a slide can reveal a tantalising hint of the detail, and a quick play with saturations, curves, hues and colour balances can improve things.
Unfortunately, there's a balance to be made. If this was the only slide showing JFK and Marilyn engaging in "Uganda  Discussions", then I'd spend a few hours teasing every detail out of the slide. (And the resulting image would look as fake as a Playboy Bunny.)

But that level of effort seems unlikely here.

Bonus - Japanese WW2 Pilot bombs America, and returns years later. The result...

Work in Progress

You might wonder why this regular feature is termed "Tedious Tuesday".

Or looking at today's slide, perhaps you might not need to ask.

Bonus :
From the Tedious to the frankly Barking. "Disney Princesses, re-imagined as Cement Mixers."
No, I've no idea why.

Breakfast in the Garden

Tragically, 30 seconds later, Trevor was engulfed and consumed by the giant mutant ivy which you can see creeping over the fence.

And he was only 3 hours away from retirement.

Bonus - Do you see those two guys on yonder pier...
