Just a Village Fete

It's seemed like a fairly ordinary, perhaps dull, slide from a village fete, However, closer inspection reveals...

Odd.  Very Odd.

Difficult to see from here, but they certainly seem like Rednecks.

Bonus - You know you're getting old when the "edgy" music you used to play to piss your parents off is being played as background music at the supermarket.

Someone's pride and joy - a model railway set-up.

Nice.

Absent-mindedly, I Googled Paint Creek Mine, an discovered that not only Paint Creek exists, but there was a mine and a rather bitter dispute.

Fascinating.

That's one thing I do miss since giving up being a scout leader - woods, fires, and lazing on a warm afternoon. And today is Hot.  Very Hot, so some shade would be great.

Bodrum Castle

Maybe it's the weather.

Maybe it's the unrelenting workload at work.

Maybe its the depressing news.

But I was a quiet restful weekend. Not necessarily at Bodrum Castle, but somewhere quiet.

Bonus - Spirograph !!!

Arion

Obviously, I am a man of Culture. And Refinement.  So I immediately recognised the work of a craftsman.

But, it was comforting to see the words writted on this particular slide -

Arion, Ernst Hiolle, 1834-86 D'orsay

Clearly the work of Ernst Hiolle, the three-legged sculptor of Montana. I need not mention how he gained his infirmity.

Damn You, Unused Focusing Ring

This might have been an excellent slide.

This MIGHT have been selected to be the cover of Robbie Williams' next CD.

But it's out of focus. Dammit.

Bonus - How will living next door to a Meth Lab affect your house value? (No, not an article in the Daily Mail.)

I say. Is that a Liberty Ship?

They few enough items on interet in this slide - so I'm hoping that's a Liberty Ship.

For any youngsters out there, the Liberty Ship was a class of cargo ship built in the United States during World War II. Though British in conception, the design was adapted by the United States for its simple, low-cost construction. Mass-produced on an unprecedented scale, the now iconic Liberty ship came to symbolize U.S. wartime industrial output. Around 2,700 Liberty Ships were produced.

Bonus - Some pedestrians should not be messed with.

No 12 - The Bohemian

A picture from "The Observer's Book Of Deadbeats", subtitled "A guide to spotting and identifying undesirables."

I'm sure most readers will recall The Observer Book Of... series, small books filled with facts, figures and photos of many hobbies and passtimes.  I remember regularly getting the Aircraft one for Christmas.

"...Deadbeats" was the rarest, identifying Hippies, Poets, Black Panthers, Girl Scouts and Bohemians, amongst others.

Problem was, The Observer was rather left-leaning, and on learning of this issue, the book was cancelled.

There, I bet you didn't know that.

Angela and Adam's Wedding

Last night, I was at the reception for Adam and Angela's Wedding. Nice.  So this slide (which doesn't feature Angela or Adam) seemed appropriate.

Conceivably, they could be short longs, but I suspect they're just a pair of hand-me-downs...and young Elmer will just Grow Into Them.

UK General Election

Today, foreign readers, is the day of a UK General Election, where we get to choose between a bunch of disreputable shysters, and elect one to represent our interest and squander a load of money, in Parliament.

So as to avoid unduly influencing the outcome, I has selected this exciting slide.  Info written on it...
"Harrison Shirley and Velma - My step-father and step-sister"

Bonus - Birthday present from a Dad.  Sorry, I have something in my eye.

Snacking on the Lawn

I'm sure that someone will correct me if I'm wrong, that looks to be Sidlington Hall, the regimental retirement home for the 32nd Indian Hussars.

Bonus - President Donald Trump and his driver were cruising along a country road one night when all of a sudden they hit a pig, killing it instantly.
Trump told his driver to go up to the farmhouse and explain to the owners what had happened. About one hour later Trump sees his driver staggering back to the car with a bottle of wine in one hand, a cigar in the other and his clothes all ripped and torn.
"What happened to you?" asked Trump
"Well, the Farmer gave me the wine, his wife gave me the cigar and his 19-year-old daughter made mad passionate love to me."
"My God, what did you tell them?" asks Trump.
The driver replies, "I'm president Donald Trump's driver, and I just killed the pig."
