"Rosebud?"

Last day of January, and still no serious snow here at Slide Central.

However, this little girl seems to be enjoying her winter wonderland.

...and that snazzy sledge seems to be an Olympian, rather than a Rosebud.

Bonus - Seriously, wait for the Green Light...

Bonus 2 - If a giant mirror was the same distance from the Earth as the ISS

"Composition in Yellow and Aqua"

The only thought that might rescue this slide from being a "Tedious Tuesday" slide is the vague hope that it might be "art".

May, maybe not.

Bonus - Am on the mend, thanks to Yelena, my personal nurse, who's kept me warm and snuggly in my sick bed.   I can hope :-(

Rolls-Royce's New Engine Test Bed

For all you engineers and architects out there, I thought you'd be interested in a seeing an artist's impression of Rolls-Royce's new aero-engine test bed in  Derby.

Impressive.

Apologies, but I'm rather unwell today, and my powers of concentration are lacking.  Off to bed now.

The Effects Of Too Much Sex

In Droog County, Arkansas, Festus McGraw (above) is a bit of a legend.

Every day since his fourteenth birthday, Festus as enjoyed a dalliance with the ladies everyday, and more often than not, with several ladies on the same day. And sometimes with some of the "pretty boys" who hung out at the YMCA.  There are also rumours about the O'Neill's Farm, but we won't go into that.) There was one day where he looked to have struck out, but a late night visit to the Widow McPherson's home proved fruitful.

Yes, sex several times a day, every day.

An impressive record for a 27 year old.

Yes, this slide is out-of-focus, but no matter. These guys are definitely having fun at the seaside.

Look! Look At Our Dumb-Ass Kids

Again, why would someone photograph this?

  • For a lecture on Medieval Art?

  • Because "The family looks just like us"?

  • Bizarre scavenger hunt?

Your guess is as good as mine. (The Great Picture, Jan van Belcamp.)

Bonus - Furlong City, China

A Dirty Weekend

Ethyl (on the right) told her husband that she was off to a Girl's Brigade Young Leaders' Reunion in Padstow, but in reality, she was in Minehead, with her Managing Director Norman ("AKA The Aylesbury Lothario").  A dirty weekend of ... well, you can guess what transpired.

Oh, there will be hell to pay when the Church Prayer Group find out about this.

Slovenské národné divadlo

Yes, as a special treat for all my hundred of mid-European readers, it's a picture of Slovenské národné divadlo.

I don't need to translate that for you?  Doesn't everyone have a smattering of Slovak?

OK : for the less able of you, "Slovak National Theatre"

Bonus -  Cheese Tuesday.

Actually, I had this a couple of day ago, but only just remembered to post it.   This week, my fabulous friend found me a flavorful Finn cheese. A lovely, soft cow's milk cheese, akin to a Camembert.  Soft, double cream texture. Lactic and creamy when young with walnut and mushroom flavours as it matures.

Made by Charlie Westhead from Neal's Yard Creamery which moved from The South East in 1996 to the beautiful location on Dorstone Hill, overlooking the River Wye in Herefordshire.

The texture did slightly remind me of Dairylee Triangle, but the flavour more than made up for that.

Two Normal .... Healthy .. Teens

...ready for the most important night of their year.

Prom Night !

It's easy to mock, but Teenage Americans really did wear outfits like this.   The dress, I suppose, is fine (tho' it probably wouldn't suit me.)  However, Henry.    What were you thinking???    Wine colored tuxedo and a skinny bow tie.   Fashion Fail.

Bonus - Meanwhile, In Finland...

Refreshing break beside the lake.

Ah, lovely.

You probably recognise this as being the Hotel Flüela Hospiz, near Davos in Switzerland. And yes, it's still in business.

As an aside, 970's fashions / hairdos are awesome.

Bonus - Anyone for Tea?

The Westland Wyvern

I won't bother playing Name That Plane with this one, because, I've already done that.

But, an interesting looking plane by any standards. Wikipedia.

Bonus - On a plane theme, it's interesting to read fatal plane crash reports, and see what the NTSB can't quite bring themselves to say explicitly. For example, this one. What was happening at the time ?  :-)

What a Monster !

Indeed, it' not often you see one that size, is it?

No information on the slide, so I guess the original photographer is keeping the location secret

Good Plan, there's probably a ruthless gang of smuggler who would want this...   umm, this....Large Lemon ?????

Bonus - Complete Incomprehension

Ole!

Christmas does strange things to people. Here, two perfectly normal people are magically transformed into a matador and a bull.

I suspect that Brandy has a large part to play in the transformation.

Bonus - Melania and Donald Trump both botched Pearl Harbor remembrance tweets.

Bonus 2 - A couple of days ago saw the death of Edwin Hawkins, so have this.

Admit it .

This is a stonkingly good picture.

I can imagine it as an album cover for a young trendy indie band.

(And that's a cool diving platform.)

Possibly Not Original

What I like about 35mm slides is that the image you see is the image that was formed in the camera.

Unlike prints from negatives, THIS is the original.

But perhaps not this particular slide. This MIGHT be a photographic of an illustration.

Of course, maybe it is a genuine image of the Old Testament Prophet Elijah telling the Mideonites that the eating of raspberries is forbidden by the scriptures.  Maybe.

Bonus - The sad demise of Dynamosaurus imperiosus.

Bonus 2 - Alaska Highway Construction 1944 Documentary

Peanuts for Pachyderms

Zoo Visits - Always popular.

Bonus - Why dolphins are deep thinkers

Bonus 2 - Cheese Saturday - Week 2.   Another weekend, another cheese. Today it's a Royal Basset Blue Thanks Chris and Ian.

Mmmmm.   That's a little unexpected. You know what your're getting with a Blue Cheese (normally), and opening the wrapping reveals a rind that looks like granite. Cutting it open and .... no blue. Still, nothing ventured....
Odour wise - far less pungent than the Hummingbark, tho' still noticeable. The cheese is a soft blue cheese, and combines a mushroomy rind with a creamy golden edge and a springy white centre.Strength wise ... a medium. Eminently quaffable.   Good Stuff.

My sis has just put her house up for sale, so this slide seemed sort of appropriate.

However, her house and this house .. well... there's just no comparison.

Tramcar To Tomorrow

No, I don't think that this is Nottingham.

It looks more....Germanic... to me, even allowing for the pizzeria in the background.

One advert on the tram seems to say Interlabor, so that might indicate Switzerland.

Bonus - "Tramcar To Tomorrow" is a compilation of Be Bop Deluxe tracks, so have this

Pejabat Bungkus

"Pejabat Bungkus"

I couldn't put it better myself.

However, for those of you who have an imperfect commend of the Malaysian Languages, I'll translate.  "Wrapping Office".

And as for "Ketua Steshen", I'd suggest "Station Manager".

Not Malta

it's YALTA.

Yes, it appears to be the Intourist Hotel complex in Yalta, in the Crimea.

Some people may find that interesting, but this slide is rather tedious.

Bonus-

No idea what this is, but WTF?

Where's Del Boy?

For (almost) all Britons of a certain age, any image of chandeliers will provoke memories of a certain "Only Fools and Horses" clip.

Luckily, these ones hail from Russia, so are probable safe from Del and Rodney.

Sunnier Days

As we struggle with wind (pardon) and rain outside, here's a reminder of warmer sunnier days. Here, a dad photographs his family on a sunny day out.

Bonus - Cheese Saturday. Thanks to a couple of awesome chums (Hi Chris and Ian), I have a selection of strong cheeses as a Christmas present. Thanks guys.  Today, I opened the first of them - a Carrigbyrne Hummingbark cheese. Cow's milk, wrapped in Spruce Bark.

Oh Boy !       Immediately hit by a pungent odour of smelly feet, and I plough on with a couple of scoops spread on some crusty bread.  The flavour is delicious, and creamy. The rind, tho' edible, was just a bit too strong for my enjoyment, but the creamy flesh is delicious.  Excellent cheese, excellent chums, excellent present.

Bonus 2 - NSFW - man "trapped" inside "balloon". Cannot be Unseen.
