Elsie and Mavis - Rugby "Scouts"

Every training session of the Bosworth and Hinckly Rugby Club, Miss Elsie Turnbull and Miss Mavis Shephard are there, watching the muscular, sweaty, grunting young men in their tight tight shorts.  Always willing to offer an opinion to the coaches, and filming the men..."In case they become famous".   Letchy Ladies.

Bonus - For Nick & Andy...

I Choo-Choo-Choose You.

In the sixties (or maybe seventies) I bet this was absolutely heaven for young lads. Their own small scale steam train.

Sadly, I still know some middle aged me who would squee at the prospect of such a train ride.

Bonus - Van Morrison’s Contractual Obligation Album
This is the sound of not really trying.

Bonus 2 - On the other hand...
This is the product of my fevered mind
And this is the sound of being left behind
And this is ritual dissection of the soul
I hope that you will enjoy it

Jody, Posing in Devon

There's a box-full of Jody on her Devon holiday, posing demurely for her cameraman companion.

And no, she's not nude for any of the photos.

Sorry Nick.

Bonus -  News Articles that make me laugh, then despair.

Suggestions welcomed.

At The Qualla Boundary

You've probably guess that this blog is based in Britain, so a lot of the American Slides are only recognised through the filter of popular culture. While I do think of myself as a widely read bloke, I had never heard of the Qualla Boundary before.

And yet, here's a slide of it, and I am now educated via Wikipedia.

Bonus 1 - Strangely, Google seemed to conflate Qualla with Koala. Synchronicity.  I'd just been reading about the Koala's evil cousin - The Drop Bear.

Bonus 2 - Not a hoax.  Trump suggests 'nuking hurricanes' to stop them hitting America

Summer's End Party at Chris n Ian's

A top evening was had by all, with burgers, beer, icecream, wasabi almonds and much chatting.  Excellent.

Irma, The Beach Belle

Enjoying the rays, on the Bank Holiday Weekend.

Is it just me, or do those seagulls look a littl ...ummm..."Jewish"?

Bonus - She was born during the reign of James I, was a youngster when RenĂ© Descartes set out his rules of thought and the great fire of London raged, saw out her adolescent years as George II ascended the throne, reached adulthood around the time that the American revolution kicked off, and lived through two world wars. Who or What?

Bell Brand Potato Chips

From the look on Aggie's face, Bell Brand are the potato chips that disappoint.

(They went out of business 24 years ago, so I'm unlikely to be sued.)

Bonus - HOW (AND WHY) ATHLETES GO BROKE. (American, but probably true of other areas.)

Roofers

Men At Work.

Roofers, showing why workmen often used to wear flat caps.

Bonus - British Sea Power, Live in Leicester last night. Excellent night, spoiled (slightly) by a single twunt in the audience.

Why would the ustall a light there ?

Loads of absolutely abnormal normal folk, hanging around and with mysterious paper bags containing ....something.

Looks like the Mid-West America version of The League of Gentlemen.

Nice Weather ... For Ducks

After the responses to yesterday's AA B727 slide, I thought I have a play with this slide from the same box / set / day / airport.   Unusually, I prefer this slide with some fairly severe image manipulation.  Just sharpness settings...but still ... a bit dramatic.

That's not a Boeing B727 this time - It's a Boeing 707.   You're welcome.

American Boeing 727

As it says on the tin, it's an American Airlines Boeing 727 airliner.

Yeah. Nice.

And my PC problems seems to be mitigated. The driver for the reverse madriga sprungler had been corrupted.

Bonus - One for Nick n Andy, after an excellent gig at Nottingham,

Dying Gladiator

The slide was labelled as "Dying Gladiator Kahl of Potsdam"

But that's not turning up any hits.

So, your guess is as good as mine.

Drive. Drive towards the Setting Sun

Could be anywhere, but more likely to be the United States of America than Weston-Super-Mare.

This was a deteriorated colour slide, but I liked the green-component version better.

Bonus - the picture immediately made me think of...

Practicing some Folk Dances

Looks like the Woodchurch Carnival of 1968 will be enlivened by some Folk Dancing from the Primary School Kids.

The Folkestone Glacier

Mr & Mrs Ernest Peabody, of Tunbridge Wells dice with death by sitting at the head of the Folkestone Glacier.

Now, obviously, this isn't a real glacier, but it was the common name of a "White Cliffs" theme park attraction just outside Folkestone.  It saved decent people from the trouble of actually visiting the real White Cliffs, with its attendant drug addict problem.

The theme park closed in 1971, after the UK Decimalisation Crisis.

Street Scene

Something about the small details of this slide make me think that it's a scene from Lucerne in Switerland, with a FAUN mini-sweeper.

Nice artwork !

It's Art, That's What it Is

Perhaps, you, dear reader, can enlighten me as to who/what/when/why...because I'm clueless.

Bonus - Curious that the English language has rhyming pairs of related words -
When? - Then
Where? - There
What? - That
Who? - Thou

Bonus 2 - The longest time between two twins being born is 87 days.

Sunday Sweetness

Awwww.   Sweet.

I was going to guess, some form of mini-graduation, but my instinct tells me it's some form of Church Blessing or Confirmation or some religious twattery.

Bonus - Blast from the Past - Detachable Penis

My Coastal Retreat

Today, I am mainly planning my late summer escape.  A couple of days on the west coast of Scotland, and this slide reminded me of  just how wonderful a coastal break can be.

The slide, I suspect, is New England rather than Old Scotland.

Town Planning

Who needs town planning when you can have organic town growth like here.

I dare say that parts of this town/city have existed longer than America has, and it looks great.

I just wonder where it is....

Bonus - Actually, that building on the right looks like AlcĂ¡zar of Toledo.

Bonus 2 - Today's interesting word - Gastrolith

Dances with Flowers

To he family, she was Elizabeth O'Malley, but she preferred he Navajo Name TeeLa-Huaten-ho.

She believed it translated as "Dances with Flowers", but actually it meant Gullible and Dangerously Flatulent.

It makes you think.
