Yes, the end of august, and the final Bank Holiday of the year.
So, let's celebrate with these two ladies. identified only as "J & K on the Beach, 1978." Clearly in the ladies believed that SPF 50 Sun Protection is for wussies, they hopefully believed that their leathery skin would provide some protection from the slings and arrows of outrageous comments. Nice.

The StayCationer Sagas
Dear BBC SitCom Department.
I have this brilliant idea for a sitcom. You take one of the Icelandic Sagas, and you re-write it for a couple of middle-aged, semi-retired swingers, touring Britain i their caravan...in the late sixties.
Instead of pitched battle with the invading vikings, they can have disagreements over who gets that last remaining caravan pitch at Cleethorpes Caravan Park. The comedy just writes itself.

Spirit Photography
One of the frustrations of film photography was the occasional re-use of a partially used film. The result, at best, was a quirky and unexpected double exposure.
Like this one. Which could pass as an artistic deliberate meditation on humanity, frailty and the dangers of car travel. Or something.

Main Street, Fort William. ?
I'm slightly stumped by this one. The slide is marked as "Main Street, Fort William", and the building style seems right for the west coast of Scotland, ...but...
Fort William doesn't have a "Main Street." It does have a main street, and on the left is a street sign for Bank Street but I just cant reconcile this view with the current arrangements of streets. I suppose that a lot changes over the past sixty years.

Maude at Suicide Point
It had been a desire for many years, and eventually Maude Cuthbertson visited Suicide Point, on the Burton-upon-Trent Boardwalk.
Located just around the corner from the Coastguard's station, and a decent walk from the Lifeguard hangout, it was a quiet spot.
But who took that picture?

There's something about brutal modernist architecture, the soviet bloc and concrete that goes together like Louie, Huey and Dewey.

Alas, this Ektachrome slide had discoloured badly with age / storage conditions.
Luckily, some playing with the colour components yielded thus image of a relaxed and happy dude.

After a couple of Babychams, these two respectable members of the Butterley Bridge League would let their hair down and put on a little double-act for the attendees.

Quarantine Delivery Service
Happened upon this slide, and it seemed appropriate for this Covid-19 Lockdown world.
No idea of the background for this pic,, and I don't even know if it's for delivering, food, medicine or puppies. But, a nice low-tech solution.

Niagara in Blue
"A Happy Little Accident."
Now, technically this should be called a bad photograph. The exposure rather too contrasty, and the Ektachrome slide had deteriorated and colour-shifted over the years.
But, it's made this slide (unretouched or corrected) quite like an old Cyanotype image. And I like it.
Bonus - What I don't really like, or at least, it makes me uneasy, is this.

Trash Panda
From a selection that was marked "American Zoos", but had no other info.
So, I know that these wee critters are officially Raccoons, but I've always preferred their alternative name "Trash Pandas".
Yeah.

"Steady - Steam Obscures Vision"
This is one of my favourite found slides, and I know nothing about it. No markings or information on the slide, and exercising my Google Skills turns up a whole heap of nothing.
Based upon most slides, I'm assuming this is somewhere in America (tho' New Zealand is a possibility), and the car appears to be late 40's (but I'm no expert.).
So, I invite you to just enjoy the slide and a simple, nice slide.
Bonus - In honour of Elvis (43rd Anniversary) this evening I shall enjoy a snack of Four Scoops of Ice cream and six chocolate chip cookies. Except, I hope to survive. :-)

Staycationing - 1970
1970, and while the hippies and youngsters were hanging out, and chasing rainbows, middle englanders were planning their next escape to Borsetshire for a long weekend.
Mildred and Alan must have struggled with their underpowered Triumph Herald ( 0–60 mph in 31.1 seconds.) and a not-very-aerodynamic caravan, but...they were happy. Time for a cuppa?

Exhibit "Q"
"So, members of the jury, you've heard the case for the prosecution, and frankly it's weak. Only two items of video footage, some questionable DNA evidence, some irrelevant previous convictions for similar events, and a written confession with uncharacteristic spelling mistakes. Not very conclusive."
"Instead, members of the jury, I ask you (shows slide - Exhibit Q) "Does this look like the face of a man who would shoot a policeman. And then steal his helmet. Would he go to the toilet in his helmet. And then send it to the policeman's grieving widow. And then steal it again! ?"
I rest my case.

Daffodils and Tulips
A pretty, but dull, slide. I could enliven it with a couple of facts, and you can judge if either, one or both are true.
Tradition holds that if a daffodil is forced to bloom for the Chinese New Year, it will bring luck to the whole household.
The name ‘Tulip’ originated from the Persian word ‘delband’ meaning turban, given the flowers turban shape. Another reason for its association with Turkey is because locals would often decorate their turbans with tulip stems.

The P.T.O.P Committee
It had been the PTOP for as long as anyone could remember, and yet, no-one could remember what it was an acronym for.
When asked, people just made up something that seemed appropriate.
"Parents & Toddlers Of Preston"
"Pirates Training Our Professors"
"Perfect Twits Out Parachuting"
"Prestridge's Totally Organic Personality"
The thing is, it didn't actually stand for anything. It was just The PTOP. So, now you know.
