Ready for the Razzle

Here's Kimberley (and that's Kimberley, NOT Kim) and she's all dolled up, ready for a Friday Night on the Razzle.

Hopefully, she'll have some memories of the night, unlike last weekend in Kingston-upon-Hull.

(Actually, the slide says Sheila in Evening dress, Jan 1964.)

Bonus - Two Tigers vs Goose

Bous 2 -for people with too much money. Tiffany's Everyday Objects - Silver coffee can.

Bolivar Libertador

Tedious Tuesday has arrived again, and we have another Tedious yet Strangely Interesting slide.

This is from the Travels around South America with someone who writes a lot on the slide mounts collection. On this one - "A memorial to Simon Bolivar, the great liberator on a  mountain top overlooking the city of Caracas, Venezuela".

I wonder if it's still there...

By Force of Habit

He was on his holiday, and this market was 700 miles outside of his jurisdiction, but Henry was a Weights and Measures man to his very core.

"That scales does not have a certificate of calibration on display" was hist first thought.

Henry was a very lonely man.

Bonus - Thirty Five Years Ago Today

The Defiant One

Elouise Conchita Martinez, who was better known under he stage name "Mildred Fierce", was a pioneer of women's wrestling in the Upper MidSouth territory. Although only 5'3", she was a fireball of energy, and strong enough to perform "The Polish Teacup" move on any of her opponents.

The Priest With The Shovel

I've entitled this blog post "The Priest With The Shovel" because it features...go on, have a guess.

Yes, it's Father Flaherty of the Rapid City Catholic Church, wielding a Spear and Jackson Dominator Heavy Load shovel.

I believe that he was digging up the church's Time Capsule, due to the rumours of some gold teeth being included.

Bonus - And to celebrate St Georges Day - "Mountain" by Dreadzone.

The Master prepares to demonstrate.

This was a heavily discoloured slide, so I've rendered it as a monochrome slide to prevent your eyes from screaming in agony.

I wonder how many homes now have a grand piano in them now.

Bonus -     the King's doctor Johann Struensee seized power for over a year in 18th century Denmark. He managed to abolish slavery, abolish censorship of the press, and have an affair with the Queen before being ousted and executed in 1772

“The Snow Eddied and Whirled about the Men”

No info was written on this slide, but clearly from the style it's by W.H.D. Koerner, and a little digging reveals that it is “The Snow Eddied and Whirled about the Men” from 1932.

You can see the original at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West

Koerner’s life (1878 – 1938) spanned the great age of American illustration. Born in Lunden, Schleswog-Holstein, Germany, Koerner was an infant when his family chose the promise of American soil. He grew up in rural Iowa. Painting cows on milk wagons for $5 each in his hometown of Clinton provided his entry into the professional world of art.

(Not) From the Scottish Tourist Board.

No information on tis slide, but the can of Tartan Special in the driver's footwell makes me think it could be Scotland. And the possible demolition site ahead of the lovely lime green car makes me wonder if this is/was Ravenscraig  Steel Plant.

But ... it could be anywhere.

Bonus - Imigongo. an art form popular in Rwanda traditionally made by women using cow dung

Bonus 2 - Isatai'i    Comanche medicine man Kwihnai Tosabitu (White Eagle), told his warriors that his medicine made them invincible to the white man's bullets. When this medicine failed and they were massacred in the Battle of Adobe Walls in 1874, he was renamed Isatai'i (Coyote Vagina).

A Visit To Captain Harklefist's

Sunday, and time for a family drive to a local cultural landmark. Today, it is a trip to Cape Crenly, and the home of legendary mariner and master whaler, Captain Harklefist. The stories about him, and his crew of the whaleship Venus are many, varied and occasionally true, and there is no reason to repeat them here.

Bonus - Fleeing a Tsunami in Greenland

A moment in time...

I like this image.

I'd LOVE this image if the photographer had actually focused his camera on the two love-birds, but I can't alter history.   That's something that modern folks won't have to worry about with their digital cameras and camera phones. Autofocus massively reduces that issue.

The slide, however, is labelled as "1966 Oct Jon Hill  Nadine". So, that's nice.

Not In Kansas Anymore

Admittedly, I'm taking a bit of a risk here.

A. There's no information on this slide regarding location,   and

B. I've never visited all parts of Kansas.

So, maybe I should says that this slide was probably not taken in Kansas.

Bonus - Gulp!!!

Bonus 2 - Mystery tree “creature” reported to animal services actually a croissant

A Bunch of 747s

An increasingly rare sight nowadays. A ramp full of Boeing 747 Jumbo Jets, and very early ones at that.  Air France, Lufthansa, SAS.... ah. Memories.

Nowadays, it would be a bunch of identikit twin-engine aircraft, which even planespotters struggle to identify the different planes.

It's Two Damned Deer.

A perfect illustration of how human vision can instinctively narrow to focus on a particular thing...that either one of these deer.

However, cameras generally can't, so this slide just seems ... dull.

Bonus -in 1969, at the height of the Cold War, the Apollo 11 crew carried commemorative medals to the moon to honor two Soviet cosmonauts who died as part of the USSR's human spaceflight program

Good Times.

C L E V E L A N D

Yes, it's the Cleveland Ohio chapter of the Fez-Wearers of the US club, or some other group.  Water Buffalo? Shriners?

There's gotta be a better name for it, but some PhotoArcheologyMappingGoogleFu means that I've identified where this is, and where the photographer was standing.

Cleveland - Check (well, actually Toledo)
YWCA - Check (tho building extended)

A Pratt In A Cap

From Jun 1977, and everything about this dude screams "Pillock"

The form he's examining seems to be from FDIC: Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, so I would venture to suggest "Financial Pillock".

The Dungeon Guest House

It's Tuesday, which means Tedious Tuesday !  Yay !

Today's dull slide of is of the Dungeon Guest House.

Tedious.

But, it is Hinckley's only S&M Themed Guest House, offering a selection of restraints, toys and marital aids for married couples. It manages to strictly enforce that limited clientele, to maintain good relations with the nunnery on the left side of the guest house.

Bonus - Installing a new transmitter at WKBD. (Not advised for vertigo sufferers.)

Monday 5 April 2021

Out With Mother

Ready for a tour around the suburbs.

Looking at this slide, I had a sudden odd thought. Polio?

I wonder if this little lad is a polio sufferer?  That buggy / carriage seems a little OTT for a normal lad. Maybe, just maybe...

Bonus - On a bit of a tangent... The Retro Prams of Prague

Dog wrinkles his brow and replies, "But that wouldn't make any sense.."

The Class of '73

Cheers.
