There's something about that sand ...

It's the contrast between the (moist) shoreline and the (dry) beach sand. It's TOO contrasty.

Is it possible that the whole beach has been dusted with DDT to keep the sand-flies down ?

I'm sure you'll recognise Moscow University, and I'm certain that you're already thinking - "What a hideously tedious picture."

And you'd be right. So, In an effort to add some interest, I've imagines what it would look like if Vlad Putin explodes due to touching anti-matter.

Hot Summer in the South

No info on this slide, but as it's Late Summer Bank Holiday Monday here in Slideville, I'm assuming this is a hot Southern USA family gathering. Georgia, or Alabama, or similar.

Amalienborg Palace

The Changing of The Royal Guard
Amalienborg is famous for its royal guard, known as The Royal Life Guard. Every day you can watch the changing of the guards as they march from their barracks by Rosenborg Castle through the streets of Copenhagen to Amalienborg, often accompanied by music. The changing of the guard takes place at noon.

Where in the World???

Actually, it's quite easy.  It's East Kilbride, in Scotland.

Or , more likely San Giorgio Maggiore (church), Venice.   A 16th-century Benedictine church on the island of the same name in Venice, northern Italy, designed by Andrea Palladio, and built between 1566 and 1610. The church is a basilica in the classical Renaissance style and its brilliant white marble gleams above the blue water of the lagoon opposite the Piazzetta di San Marco and forms the focal point of the view from every part of the Riva degli Schiavoni.

Photographed from somewhere like here.

The Haggerty's Cultural Trip to Europe

Imagine the scene. The Haggerty family return from their three-week tour of Europe, and invite all their friends and neighbours to see the slides of what they saw.

And there's four hours of .... this.

Agony.

I'm sure you'll recognise the work of Georges Rouget (1784 1869), and more precisely "Cupid Pleading Venus to Forgive Psyche" (1827).

Bonus - Logan Paul, an American YouTube personality, purchased a rare ‘Bumblebee’ 0N1 Force NFT for $623,000 back in 2021. Today, it’s worth $10.

Meanwhile, in a back street in Albi...

The only info on the slide was "Albi", and immediately my brain started wondering - The Italian One or The French One.

Looking at the slide..."Yeah, that looks like the French Cathedral."

In fact, this seems to be close to the modern view on Streetview.

Also quite interesting, a closer look reveals the restaurant La Case Creole. And that's giving me a hunger for some Jambalaya...

Honeysuckle or wisteria growing around the cottage front door...it sounds quaint and picturesque....but beware.

Bonus :I got 50 quid from my mom...

She told me to take my brother to the movies, but not to bring him home before 6, so they had time to prepare his surprise birthday party.

A return to the "Miss St Petersburg 1974" box of slides.  Maybe if you're good, you get one of the Swimsuit Round slides tomorrow. Maybe.  (Edit. Damn. A duplicate.)

I can find nowt about Miss St Petersburg competition in 1974, but googling did remind me of America's obsession with Booty, sorry Beauty Pageants, such as this page.

Anyway.... the fashions .... wow.  And it appears that the chap in the centre is Dave Miller. OK.

Saturday on the Silty Shoreline

So, I recently relocated the slide scanner, and simultaneously rediscovered by joy in scanning slides. (A lot depends upon the subjects of the slides - there are good boxes and bad boxes.)

So, this one was one of yesterday's scans and there are a LOT of this family. Today's is from a trip to the beach, possibly on / near the Isle of Wight.  Ah, memories. Building damns and structures to retain the tidewater.

A Gathering of Deer

Sadly, a perfect illustration of the differences between human eyesight and camera optics.

In real life, the photographer would have seen the herd of deer at the end of the field, and his focus would have been on them, seeing great detail in them.

Alas, the standard camera lens...doesn't. A wide angle view, and the deer are  .... microscopic.

My Cabin In The Country

Well, it's a dreich, wet, miserable day here in Slideville, so Here's a slide of my weekend retreat in the Lincolnshire Alps. Mongo Lodge was some sort of hunting lodge for rich weirdos in the 1890's, and I purchased it as a retreat from my weekday Panda-Breeding business.

Alas, as you see, the hoi polloi have found it, and insist on visiting and photographing it.

Trash Pandas

I've always liked the name Trash Pandas as an informal name for Raccoons.

Alas, racoons seem to be much maligned species in the US of A, and the Trash association doesn't really help.

I wonder what the equivalent for UK wildlife would be...
