Francine...beside the bins

This is the sort of slide I love. - Ordinary people, on an ordinary day.

Francine and Derek, at the end of a long day, enjoying the sunset beside the trash can. Idyllic. And is that a small glass of Coke on the step, or is it a large glass of rum. I dunno.

Christmas Gifts - Don't forget that there will be a 2010 calendar, featuring many of the finest slides in the collection. Most, which have never been featured on the blog.  Stay tuned.

Bonus - Mesmerising

Approaching The Bridge

Been scanning another box of 200 slides. Not in one go, obviously. The tedium involved would be worse than a reading a Daily Mail editorial.

However, even at 30 a day, that's a reasonable chunk of tedium. This is a very un-inspiring selection, and this is one of the better ones.  A snatched photograph, but at least it's got some drama in it.

Where is it?  No info from the slide, tho' there is a date of 1968. However, the bridge on the right looks distinctive, and I guessed Isambard Kingdom Brunel, and that suggests that this is the Tamar Bridge.  Anyone know for sure ?

il fait france forte

Admit it. Valéry Giscard d'Estaing never looked better.

Weathering of a poster or art installation....I don't know, but I like the shot.   There are some excellent photographs out there.

More Funghi

It's been a while since the last picture of mushrooms, so time to wheel out this pair of tiny devils. This species is the Peacock's Knee Mushroom, and is a native of Wiltshire, tho' it has been spreading as far as Staffordshire, most likely due to Global Warming. ( The name derives from the belief that the mushroom cap looked like a peacock's patella.

How cool is that ?  (Or in fact, warm.)

Alan ponders the Emptiness of Existence...

... is depressed by modern modernist architecture...

...and finally tosses himself off.

( Suicide, is what I meant, but each to his own, I s'pose.)

Zoo Elephant 1950's

Spent a thoroughly enjoyable day at Chester Zoo yesterday, so thought I'd post a slide for the zoos of yesteryear. This one is from the 1950's, and looks better than many exhibits of the time, for example Gorillas and Small Cages.

Ibiza Beach

Early post as I'm off out.  *

Another Ibiza Easter 1973 shot, and what made me chuckle was the dude on the left. Flares obviously came into fashion suddenly, and mummy modified his existing jeans with a triangle of material. Pity she had no denim material...

* Collecting lobsters for a cheesecake.

Well...Helloo !

I can just imagine Leslie Phillips taking a shine to these two lovelies, and trying out his distinctive suave chat-up lines.

Dirty old beggar....they're still at school, you dirty old man.

Yes, they're on their school's Easter cultural trip to Ibiza back in 1973, and from the size of the flairs, these two dollie birds would have been in the height of fashion then.

People photograph the oddest things

Mmmmm   Yesssss...     For tse who don't recognise it, it's The Family Circus, the sliced white bread on comic strips.

Bonus - OK, it's an advert, but it is by Joel Veitch

The Origin of the ManBag

A very historic photograph.

This was taken on the very day that Ralph (pronounced Rafe) de la Tour invented the "ManBag".

Matching his mother's purse with spotted cravat, loafers, white socks and Indiana Jones hat at a jaunty angle, Ralph started the look that won a million admiring glance.

And was Rafe manly enough to deflect the obvious jibes ?  You decide.

Weather Cock

Tedious Tuesday comes round again.

On the positive side : At least this photographer tried to do something different with thus church.

On the negative side : Still Dull.

Bonus. It's official. The scientific world has gone mad.

The BIG Top

I have a horrible feeling I should know where this is, but my mind is a blank.  Anyone know?

Swimsuit Babes

Blimey !   That's a little unexpected. Remember the two bridesmaids in yesterday's slide? Looks like they grew up to be quite comfortable infront of the camera.

That's one of the joys of slide collecting. (Must be a better name than that.) Recieving a random box of slides, and finding someone's amateur glamour attempts. After box after box of tedious scenery...this.  Most pleasant.  So let's sit back and appreciate Edith and Beccy in their cossies.

Bonus Extra : Cute and Creepy (Animal version.)

A "Local" Wedding

Weddings. Don't you love them.

A event of joyful celebrations, and beautiful brides and bridesmaids.

The happiest day of her life.

Except in Royston Vasey...

(Bonus creepier version...)

Also...WTF ?

Clevedon Miniature Railway

I'm guessing that for a large number of blokes, owning their own miniature steam train must be a unspoken fantasy (tho' not mine). Well, for all of you...stop drooling over your keyboard.

And...Heavens !   This miniature railway is in the news !     Dramatic stuff.

Bonus : For the nonplussed ladies out there, a question.  Is this as wrong as I think it is ?

Margaret and walkies time

Again, I hav no info regarding this slide, but it was Ektachrome, and badly faded. However, I like how it looks in MonoChrome.  Her clothing has a timeless quality, but the hair-style certainly looks old. Early 1950's is my guess, but I'm open to suggestions.

Bonus : Truth and Honesty in Politics.

An Hefferlump

What sort of elephant doesn't matter?

An Irr Elephant

...silence...

I'll get my coat.

Is That a Chevy On The Levee?

Tedious Tuesday rolls around again, and what a snoozefest we have today. Acres of featureless sky, and an utterly undistinguished levee and bridge.   Helps cure insomnia...

BONUS PIC : A real WhatTheFlip pic...nothing to do with me...

Monday, 10 August 2009

What the....?

Most slides I have, I can almost see why the photographer took the photo, but sometimes the logic competely eludes me.

This one, falls into the second category.  Sure, the dude is a little strange. Check shirt, check trousers, stupid beard and bull pizzle cane. Sure, that's one BIG ball of twine. But...why photograph it?

Is Freddy Photographer going to invite the neighbours round to view his collection of obscure newspaper photos?  Is there a better way to lose what friends he has ?

Basking Seals

First day of a week off, and I'm tempted to just laze around like these blubbery folks. Unfortuntely, the weather is crap, and I'm hosting a visitor...heck...they arrive in a couple of hours ! Gotta Go.

As usual, a wallpaper calendar for you.
