Sevenoak Conservative Club - Ladies Section

...prepare for their re-enactment of "The Battle of Agincourt" ably supported by Maidstone and District TownsWomens Guild (who will take on the role of the French.) Mrs Edith Flotsam will be taking on the role of Henry V, and is hoping for some rain before the battle commences. A mudbath always goes down well with the judges.

Bonus - For the Dads, and lovers of the odd. Barking

Tasteless Bonus - I was reminded a few days ago of The Baby Elephant Skin story. WARNING - NOT SUITABLE FOR CIVILISED PEOPLE.

No wonder little April grew up to be scared of the dark...look what Granny's house was like.

Benjamin - Sleepy

Meet Benjamin, who's either sleepy, or the saddest boy in Preston. As usual, I actually know nothing about this slide, other than it was processed in June 1967, and is probably British.

I'm intrigued by the blue ribbon - religious significance, or football supporter?

Bonus - Jason Bonham answered a 911 call at the Hancock County, Indiana dispatch. On the line was a five-year-old named Savannah Hensley who reported that her father had trouble breathing. An ambulance was dispatched, and Frank Hensley’s life was saved by her calm but adorable call.

Bridge and Windmill

Another snowy night here in Derby, but as usual, it didn't last. It's actually quite pleasant out there.

More pleasant that the gray, dreich, day in this slide. From the flatlands of Norfolk, I suspect.

Bonus : Kittens - A Guide

Also - James Earl Jones recites the alphabet for Sesame Street.

Betty's Ball Dress

I've just finished watching Mad Men series one, in the company of Miss T, and  I can imagine Betty Draper elegantly swanning around in this dress. Pity the slide is out of focus, but hey...no-one's perfect.

Bonus - Did you realise just how much Green-Screen / Chromakey-ing is used in normal television ?

Where in the World?

Nah. Even the most brain-addled, glue-sniffing, comatose numpty would recognise as Stonehenge, or at least a rather hopeful artists reconstruction of it.

What they won't necessarily realise is that all remains is basically the scaffolding remaining when the client pulled out and decided to have second thoughts about building an Olympic trampolining court. The builders just bogged off to another job (typical) and  just let the scaffolding in place.

Bonus. BMX Faceplant. ;o)

What's In The Box Mildred?

Proving that you're never too old for St Valentine's Day, here are Frank and Mildred. After 50 years of marriage, they're still together and capable of surprising each over.

This year, Mildred's going to get the surprise of her life. When she opens the box, she'll find the head of her former lover : Arne Mortensen, the town's chiropodist. (Frank finally got sick if Mildred's frequent pedicures . and suffocated Arne with a wholesale bag of corn-plasters.)

Valentine's Bonus - Not Happy

Tiny, Tiny Cars

For a relatively young country, the USA seems to have developed a large number of odd traditions.

For example, The Shriners.  Just plain nuts.

Bonus - Giant Art - Interesting !

We Haz Trouts

Yes, you can't beat a good "Look at our fish" Slide.

Why do Americans take so many of these ??

( EDIT : Oops. Posted a duplicate slide again. Better remove it before anyone mentions the original, and I'll replace it with another fishy foto.)

Spectacularly Bad

There are dull photos, there are tedious photos, but this...THIS...is a stunningly bad photo.

I suppose I should be grateful that it's reasonably in-focus, but by heck it took a lot of trial and error to get even this quality of photo. The contrast between bright sunshine and deep shadow is too much, even for Kodachrome.

The result is that Mrs Sensible Skirt appears to be offering biscuits to a poltergeist !

Bonus - For Reb, and her love of odd music.  I have the EP in a cupboard somewhere...

If you listen carefully, you can hear Richard Strauss spinning at 45 rpm.

Architectural Whimsy

My brain says Austria, but I don't know why.

A slide that came from America, but that doesn't mean it's of America. The architectural style makes me think of turn of the century confidence, but it doesn't look like Britain or France.

Anyone out there in the Blogosphere (hate that word) have any better idea?

Bonus Picture : Dr Byron McKeeby meets his image.

Pigeons......Hordes of Pigeons !

Nasty smelly flying rats.  Bound to excite passions in many, but rarely as extremely as in Kingston. (Have a read of the readers' comments.)

Bonus - Quiz time.   The leader of which nation said "To watch the courageous Afghan freedom fighters battle modern arsenals with simple hand-held weapons is an inspiration to those who love freedom. Their courage teaches us a great lesson—that there are things in this world worth defending. To the Afghan people, I say on behalf of all that we admire your heroism, your devotion to freedom, and your relentless struggle against your oppressors." ?  It's this bozo.

Still Life with Hospital Water Jug

Anyone else find this one a little creepy?  Someone in hospital, and the photographer is more intent on photographing the floral arrangements. Odd uh?

Bonus 2 - Crocheted Dalek.

Andy's Birthday

For years, Andy had been regaling pubs with that time, "a few years ago" when he "partied 'til late" with eight young ladies, but would reveal no more.

While accurate, Andy kept a few details back for a reason, as you can see.

Happy Birthday Andy.

Bonus -

Bonus 2 - Kunstrad EM 2009 Carla und Henriette Hochdorfer   Well, it's no odder than Synchronised Swimming

The Christening Party

Always one of the key events in a new-born's life, the Christening is a chance for hordes of odd looking relations to gather together, in church and be thankfull for small mercies.

However, this congregation seem to have lander unlucky. Not only is the snap out of focus, but the chap on the extreme right looks rather like Fred West ! Yikes.

Bonus - I've tried to limit the number of YouTube videos I stick here, but trust me, you HAVE to watch this one.

Life's A Beach

This was in a box of random slides, but all appeared to be British, but other than that - no clues. Cornwall seems like a possibility.

Anyone out there recognise it, cos it's a bitchin' beach.

   Rubbish photo, though.

Bonus : 10 Great Design Quotes
