The Laydeez Are Ready To Party !

Ronseal.  Though that doesn't explain why Mildred is chewing a dahlia.

Bonus - Do people learn from History ?  Can't you guess?

"Momma. Where do eggs come from?"

This shot very nearly made it into the 2013 Slide Guy calendar, but.... it didn't.

There's something about this summery shot that sends a shiver down my back. The simpering lad, the out-of-proportion mom, the odd knotted wool swimsuit....the egg.    Very Odd.

Bonus - Them Russians don't need no Adobe Photoshop...

An Underwhelming Party

Between Christmas and Hogmany is a odd part of the festive season. Basically, nothing much happens.

Any party held now, well.... full marks for trying to make something happen, but tough luck.   They just don't work :-(

Bonus - Chris Morris  - The Day Today - September 11th. Cringe-tastic.

Summer Steam Fayre

Strangely, I don't associate Americans with Steam Traction Engines, or the ongoing enthusiasm for them, but I guess that this slide proves that there are some outposts of the colonies where nostalgia reigns.

Bonus - Bed in Breakfast

Smile, For Jesus

Christmas is a time for joy, and this choir will undoubtedly be the stars of the Christmas Day service.  You can see Miss Harbinger (the conductor) is quite delighted with the progress of the boys.  Despite being attached by midnight black vampire butterflies, they're ready for the spotlight.

Bonus - Beyonce and Yakkety Sax - A definite improvement.

Anticipation

Awesome kiddie fashions - a prototype Wednesday Addams on the left, and a future dweeb on the right.  Classy.

Bonus - Subversive Municipal Christmas Decorations (NSFK?)

Thursday, 20 December 2012

Miss Tillman

There's no denying it.   That's Miss Tillman on the right of the three.

But what about that fabulous bit of furniture on the right?  Drinks cabinet or Mono-Speaker radio?  Don't know, but I want it.

Bonus : Mysterious Materialising Moscow Cyclist

Prom Portait

On the plus side, at least the subjects aren't squinting due to looking directly towards the sun.  On the negative side... too much contrast.

Fashion-wise.... oh boy.   Sometimes Bow-Ties aren't cool, and the show-off lily is just too bling.

Bonus - China's "Nail Grave" Relocated

Atop Dalek Tor

On the Northern edge of Dartmoor, just East of the city of Melchester rests the frankly disappointing hillock of Dalek Tor.For centuries, the ancient Britons wrote no myths and legends about this hillock- Even the name was just a leftover when another Tor was renamed.

However, the Sci-Fi writer Mitchell Dougherty remembered the shape of the old tor, and when the TV series Doctor Who came up with a new Monster Of The Week, he suggested Dalek. (Clearly influenced by the domed / conical shape.)

The right hand outcrop has been colloquially renamed Davros Tor, although the OS map still keeps the old name of Epididymis Tor.

Bonus - Blog - Clients From Hell.    Plenty chuckles.

Viewed From Above

Who would have thought that an aerial view of a rocky, wintry shore line could be tedious....but it is.   By heck, it certainly is.

Bonus - Distracted by a Home Server that appears to be dying. (Damn It!) so here's a quick hit.
Forget Schroedinger's Cat, try Nietzsche Cats

Trouble At T'Mill

Clearly, Cross-Beam is Out O' Skew on T'Treadle.

Weirdly, as I started typing this, the Intro to ISIHAC is talking about Richard Arkwright and the Spinning Jenny (a Polish Pole Dancer he was enamoured with.)

Bonus - Unbelievably, this double arch feature was unknown until 2005, despite being in France.  More info.  More Pictures

UK In December Snow Shock

Yes, Britain seems to be suffering at the unexpected arrival of 1.00 inches of snow.  Well, much of the UK, but not Derby (too much hot air emanating from the residents.)

Bonus - Puntastic

Cycling - Old Skool Style!

Undated slide, but it certainly brought the memories flooding back.  The days when  many young lads aspired to a racing bike, with a sturdy saddle-bag for some butties.

Oh, and a blue quilted anorak.  None of the dayglow neoprene/goretex.  Sheer class.

Bonus - Led Zeppelin - Plagiarisers !

Ethic Shirts

"...and these were the ethnic shirts that we got while we there. Harold likes to say that we bought them, but actually we swapped them for some out-of-date Luncheon Vouchers.  The natives seemed happy with the deal after we said that the LV's were as good as cash."

(with bonus weird see-through effect...)

Solitude Study #1

Tedious Tuesday again.  Seems like only a week since the last one.

A great mystery in life is why are these sorts of photographs taken? A jolt at the wrong time?  Dining table fetish?

Even more mysterious - why keep them ??

Bonus - Christmas Gift Suggestion

Meeting Of Concerned Citizens

Of course it's serious.  I mean....look at their faces.  It's serious, very serious.

Someone, or something, tried to join in their meeting, but they...weren't...wearing...glasses !

Oh, the humanity.

Bonus - Took me a second to recognise the tune, but it's Flunk's cover of Blue Monday.

Sunday, 2 December 2012

Nope. Not creepy.

Nosirree.  There''s nothing creepy about a child's doll, with a permed wig, dressed up in adult clothes, lounging on a chez-longue.

Nothing.  At.  All.

Bonus - When crafting enthusiasm > crafting ability.

Construction Time Again

No, not a Depeche Mode reference, it's a statement of fact. Something is being built.

Something .... agricultural, I suspect. Suggestions on a postcard.

Normally, I give eack slide a little clean and brush-up before I blog them. Things one... I don't think so.

Bonus - The secret of a good presentation is enthusiasm. It's a secret that this...umm....Chef... is clearly unaware of.   Laydeez and Gentlemen...

Edit - Damn Removed.   Alternative copy

An American Icon

You'll never guess what was carefully written on this slide. Go on.

The Name's Donald

"Donald Goebells       Professor Donald Goebells "

"What?   Any Relation?   Well, I have a sister who lives in Deer Creek, and..."

"Joseph ?     No, I don't thing I do. Why do you ask?"

"Oh My.   I'm surprised.  And shocked.      Doesn't sound like any relation I know of."

Bonus - My favourite Polar Bear picture of the moment.

Bonus 2 - Tho' this owl pic is damned good.

Thanksgiving, 1971

As we wave bye-bye to the quaint Merkin celebration of Thanksgiving (commemorating the giving of thanks for electing or re-electing a POTUS, I hear) lets appreciate this slide from 1971.

Bright and cheerful kids, and a coup,e of miserable old battleaxes. That's what families used to get together for. Nowadays, the son would be playing with his WhyPod, and the daughter would be up-chucking in the loo.

Bonus - Police 99.999% certain that man found shot in the head in tied-up sack floating in river committed suicide.

Graduation Day

A classic slide from the earlier sixties. (Or so I guess - the men are generally hatless, and the women still wear gloves. Feels like a JFK-era shot.

Whether it's West Point graduation, or just a particularly militaristic High School, I don't really know.

Bonus - Saw these two while parking in ASDAs Car Park. :-)

Bonus 2 - 37 years on, still sounding good.  Bill Nelson - Maid In Heaven

Original Wisconsin Ducks

There's a sight you don't see nowadays....

Except, that you can.  Original Wisconsin Ducks are still in business, still taking tourists trough wet and dry parts of the Wilds of Wisconsin.

Bonus - Not very ofton that you find an uplifting cartoon on the interweb. Cynicism and weirdness sems to win out usually.  However, I did like this one...

Bonus 2 - On the subject of weirdness, the always reliable Japan World Cup

Eve and The Serpent

The Gods sure have it in for this slide.  Overexposed, faded and fungal growth... there's negligible chance of it polishing up nicely.

Which is a shame, as there's a marvellous Diamondback Rattlesnake in it.

Bonus - Close escape for the SAR crew on Mount Hood.

Monday, 19 November 2012

Blimey! It's Fred West

Clearly well chuffed after disposing of another body.

Bonus - A thought.   Does anyone have the nerve to tweet "L*rd Mc *lpine ; Methinks he doth protest too much."  Me?  Nope.   No twitter account.  Plus, obviously untrue.

Bonus 2 -
