Seeing New Orleans

The depressing follow-up to "Leaving Las Vegas".

Oh Boy.  What a pair of miserable madams.

Still, the idea of a Gay Night Tour has cheered up Norm at the back.  Yes, Gray Line Tours are still touring.

How Bikes Used To Be

You can forget your Mountain Bikes, BMXs or even your racers ... THIS is a proper bike.

  • Full size mud-guards and chain guard.
  • Kick-Stand
  • Dynamo and Light
  • Sprung (comfy) seat
  • Saddle-Bag
  • Sturmey Archer 3-speed epicyclic gearbox (probably)

And it seems to be a Hercules - which I used to have. :-)

Nice.

Bonus  Ferrety Fun.

The Dorset Crapweed.

The Dorset Crapweed (Sisymunda Scatalopedia) is the signature plant of the county of Dorset. Obviously.

However, due to the prudishness of the Victorians, it is not the official county plant. Damn you.

The plant thrives in well fertislised soil, and a strangely sweet fragrance, reminiscent of Tony Hancock.

Worst Hamlet Ever !

Take

  • A work of genius by The Bard

Add

  • A smattering of enthusiasm
  • Some misguided art direction
  • Too many reluctant performers
  • A lot of over-eager direction
  • One end-of-year production

Remove

  • Any semblance of a budget
Prepare for almost a year, and Voila
The Howard Taft High School presents "Hamlet - In Nebraska"

Now, run away. Fast.

White Tuxedo (not a white dinner jacket) - Hmmm.. Dodgy, unless you're going for the Failed Lounge Singer vibe.

Farmhouse By Moonlight

This is how the slide looked, and the muted colours told me that either

a./  Someone had photographed the farmhouse by moonlight, or
b./ the Ektachrome slide colours had "gone off" with age.

I choose to believe a./

Bonus - Everything you need to know about the Brad/Angeline Divorce.

Saint Sebastian

Another Art slide with missing subject info.

My first guess was it's Saint Sebastian, who famously had is faith tested by being tied to a tree, and having arrows fired at him. But, the lack of arrows rather worries me.

What the slide does say is "F Coudray 1678-1727 Louvre" so that does narrow it down to François Coudray, and a quick check of Wikipedia turns up an image of this exact sculpture.

So, Yay for me.

Toulouse Cathedral

Cathedrals.   Internally.

Not the easiest subjects to photograph.

Especially without digital trickery.

Bonus - Boing. Someone's got a spring n their step.

Linda and Keith

That's all the slide says. Linda and Keith.

No date, no location, not eve an indication is a human, chimp or ventriloquist's doll.

I like to think that Linda's still touring with her Vent Act. Keith, however, will have been replaced by a wise-cracking baboon with a speech impediment. Linda still does OK in the Borscht Belt resorts, but mainly earns a crust as a Dental Receptionist.

Bonus - In response to very nearly one request, another Barra Slide.

Slide marked as "Pan American Nov 1957".

Huge Not Church

Sorry. Huguenot Church.

One of the most informative plaques, ever. However, as there's aren't many Huguenot Churches around, I'd say that it is this one.

Bonus - Still on holiday.
Bonus 2 - This made made me laugh too much.
Bonu 3 - Oh, go on.

Rock and Ripple

Another small detail photograph.

A deserted beach, with Atlantic waves pounding the beach, and a peaty stream bringing in dark, fresh water. It was fascinating watching the interactions.

West from this point ... America.   Or actually Labrador

Orange Glow

Well, today was a little disappointing. After yesterday sunshine and spectacle, A ferry ride to Eriskay, and a drive through South Uist, and Benbecula, Sounds nice, but...grey and miserable. Just like me. The scenery was rather flat, bland and featureless. Not like me.

So, have a picture from yesterday. Don't know what flowers they are, but there's masses of them here, and they're glorious.

Bonus - Hope tomorrow's weather improves. Forecast.

Bonus - The Sky Is On Fire !

Yes, I know it's  cliche, but Holy Crap, it's like the sky is on fire.

Post meal, I wen't for a drive, and was thinking that it was too cloudy for some star-gazing when ...WHAM. I happened upon this.

No, I've not tweaked the colours. I even left the horizon squint. This is real life, baby.

Barra Airport Viewing Platform.

OK, it isn't really. This is just the boundary, but it is a BITCHIN' airport.
Where else could you get a view like this.

The Whitby of the North

Yes, I'm in Oban. Or at least I was last night.

Not a bad wee place, reminded me of Whitby (Sea-front train station, small fishing fleet, some classic Victorian buildings), but lacking the Goths, and a bit shabbier.

Bonus - Hmmm. Yesterday's slide seems to have vanished. Gremlins?

Siblings

September already. Time to start thinking about where the woolly pullovers are.

In case you're wondering, the big black border isn't to mark two deceased subjects. No, the slide is a Half-Frame format one, and it seemed appropriate.
