New England, I guess.

As is normal, sadly, there was no info on this slide on the location...tho' I can confirm that the slide is dated 1985.

The location...I am assuming...is New England. Something about the roof and cupola, I think.

Perhaps a passing architect could enlighten us.

Bonus - I know that it's easy to ridicule POTUS Donald J Trump, but this is astonishing, even for him.

On January 21, the day the first U.S. case of coronavirus was reported, the secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services appeared on Fox News to report the latest on the disease as it ravaged China. Alex Azar, a 52-year-old lawyer and former drug industry executive, assured Americans the U.S. government was prepared...
Shortly after his televised comments, Azar tapped a trusted aide with minimal public health experience to lead the agency’s day-to-day response to COVID-19. The aide, Brian Harrison, had joined the department after running a dog-breeding business for six years..
Yes. Former Labradoodle breeder was chosen to lead U.S. pandemic task force.

Track-Laying

I could make a Lazy Comedian joke about two working and lots of supervisors and shirkers ... but that's not my style.

Circumstantial info suggest that this may be track-work in the region of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link /  M20 / Ashford in Kent, but I cannot be more accurate that that. Sorry.

The Persistence of Bovril Nightmares

Rarely a problem with modern digital cameras, this is an example of in-camera double exposure. There could be a couple of causes, but it was often annoying.

If it was accidental, it's definitely an "Oopsie".

If it was deliberate, it's Art. And it probably had a wanky title like "The Persistence of Bovril Nightmares".

Bonus - The world's worst wax museum - in pictures

The Roadside Cow

Yup.

It's a cow. At the side of the road.

As per the title.

Bonus - Thridrangar lighthouse

Bonus 2 - Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Rafael all lived and worked in Northern Italy. It would make more sense if the Ninja Turtles loved risotto instead of pizza.

The Family Portrait

A lovely family portrait, with the eye especially drawn towards Farley and his fabulous patterned shirt.  I want it !

Bonus - Yes, Covid-19 Again.  The world is on Lock-Down, and no-one is travelling.  Look at the skies - (almost) no contrails.  Aeroplanes are grounded, and some airports are looking awesome.

Bonus 2 - Paper aeroplanes pre-date real aeroplanes.

Waiting for Shore Leave

The writing on the slide says Manila 9-Mar-1951, and I have no reason to disagree.

However, "Shore Leave" make sense for the Navy ... What's the equivalent term for the US Air Force?

Bonus - Interesting - Latch for a Sliding Door

Lassie - The Twilight Years

Lassie was essentially THE big start of the late forties and early fifties. Starring in their own series of successful movies, and the less successful "Lassie In Space" radio series, and having Elizabeth Taylor and Norman Wisdom as Co-Stars.

However, after a hushed-up Sheep-Worrying incident, Lassie "retired", moving to a farm with publicist / lawyer / agent / factotum Wade Wilson. (Wad is the one on the left.)

Bonus - How Outer Hebrides were perfectly primed to tackle coronavirus.

Tulips and Daffodils

No information on the slide, as per normal, but circumstantial evidence is of a Dutch Flower and Garden Festival in the M-id-Seventies.

So, come on folks, get out there and enjoys the spring weather.

Bonus - When Stuntmen are in Quarantine.

Bonus 2 - Terrorist Attacks in Europe 1970-2015. Interesting.

700 Elizabeth Street?

I'm gonna go out on a limb here, and admittedly it's just a guess, but there's some at the back of my mind that makes me think that this might, just might be the factory for Fenton's Art Glass.

Call it a hunch.

They're still there, and they have a website.

Bonus - For those with a low opinion of Government planning... Private firm running UK PPE stockpile was sold in middle of pandemic.

Bonus 2 - ( Does not contain unicorn )

The Sinister Swingers

Not so much a Tedious Tuesday slide, but a badly-exposed slide, lending the image a rather sinister or oppressive tone.

Nice

Bonus 1 - How Much Toilet Paper Do You REALLY Need?  Fully configurable data.

Bonus 2 - But if we're discussing Toilet Paper, we must respect Cornholio.

Achalasia

Esophageal achalasia, often referred to simply as achalasia, is a failure of smooth muscle fibers to relax, which can cause the lower esophageal sphincter to remain closed. Without a modifier, "achalasia" usually refers to achalasia of the esophagus. Achalasia can happen at various points along the gastrointestinal tract; achalasia of the rectum, for instance, may occur in Hirschsprung's disease.

So there !

Sunday in the Garden, with Black Beauty

Lockdown is providing everyone with a chance to use and appreciate their gardens, just like this family.  Today, being sunny, is the ideal opportunity.

I shall be pouring myself a Mojito, and enjoying the rays soon.

Antonio of Tenby Welcomes You

Tony Evans had been in COVID-19 Lockdown for so long that the lack of customers at his modest Guest House is causing him to hallucinate.  Today, he believes that he is actually Mexican rather than from Conway.  As you can see above, Tony is straining every muscle in the effort of growing a Zapata Mustache at maximum speed.

Bonus - Remember to protect yourself while shopping.

"Thetis dipping Achilles in the River Styx"

This slide was marked as  "London V and A Museum 7-24-87", but as any cultured person would recognise, this is actually Thomas Banks's "Thetis dipping Achilles in the River Styx".

Beside that is the self portrait sculpture by/of Gilbert and George from 1973.

"Ed's Dendrite"

How Strange !

Just been scanning some old boxes, and there are a couple of professionally produces slides marked "ACM 1983 SIGGRAPH"

Some googling reveals that this refers to SIGGRAPH '83: Proceedings of the 10th annual conference on Computer graphics and interactive techniques

July 25th-29th, 1983.
This website has an archive, and actually shows and names this image.

And that website reveals that this image was computer generated, and submitted as a physical print to the event.  I guess that that print was then photographed to create a master slide...which was then duplicated.  I have one of those duplicate slides....and have digitised it so that it can be shared via computer.  How rare.

Daffodil Frenzy

Just because we're all on a CoronaVirus Lockdown doesn't mean that we have to miss out on the spring-time daffodil frenzy.

No...we have old slides to remind us of pleasanter times.

Stay-At-Home Easter Monday

Top Tip - Having a Stay-At-Home Easter Monday is the ideal way of avoiding traffic jams, packed tourist hot-spots, overpriced eateries and weird locals.   If you don't believe me, just look at the happy faces of Valerie and Thomas in the image above.  Are they enjoying their Easter Outing?

Coronavirus Isolation Ward

To be honest, I am slightly mystified by this slide.  Conceivably, it could be some sort on hospital isolation unit, but frankly, I'm not convinced.

I'm still working from home, tho' I've now learnt that all of my team-mates are being furloughed, and I will be subbing for all of them.

Damn.  I as quite looking forward to a few weeks at home, catching up on the reading that's been stacking up.

Oh well.

Bonus -  Good Question
Bonus 2 - It was thirty years ago today...

Tedious Grand Canyon ?

The Grand Canyon doesn't belong in the Tedious Tuesday selection does it?

Well this slide definitely has geology reminiscent of the Grand Canyon area, but overall the picture is rather underwhelming.

Bonus - Grand Canyon - not so grand to everyone. "I’ve been to a number of so called landmarks in my time - but what the hell was this? Just an overblown sandy ditch.

Bonus 2 - Hidden images in Swiss national maps

The Flowery Flower-Girl

The very epitome of mid-seventies wedding fashion.  Utterly sweet and innocent.

...and yet,   last night I watched Midsommar, and that flower head-dress is giving me The Fear.

Bonus - Remember that working from home isn't easy for everyone.

Enjoy The Sunshine

Here in the UK, the current Coronavirus Lockdown is jeopardised by the arrival of warm weather, so we're advised to stay at home still.

So, lets take some inspiration from this Mon & Daughter slide from 1958.  Spread a rug on the lawn, and Enjoy The Melodic Sunshine.

Bonus - RIP Bill Withers

A spin out in the sun.

End of Week Two, working from home, and I'm looking forward to a niice cycle down to the John Thompson Inn at Ingleby for a refreshing pint.

The only things stopping me are

  • We're Still on Lockdown
  • The JT is closed for same reason
  • I hate cycling
  • I have no bike.

Otherwise, a damned good plan.

Bonus - 'Mad Men' is a Beautiful Slow Burn - The show's attention to detail and complex characters make for a unique binge-watching experience.

The Temple of Osiris, Filby

Most folk know that the Egyptians were the people who invented paper, however fewer people know that they actually didn't manufacture much of the stuff.

Instead, they outsourced the paper-making task, and mostly it was manufactured in Norfolk, which at the time was much closer to Egypt.

Little remains of those paper factories (due to the great storm of 86 BC), but in 1966, this statue was unearthed just east of Filby.

It's on show in the local pub now.

Bonus - Sandra the Orangutan started washing her hands after observing her caretakers doing it.  If she can manage it, surely you can as well.

Bonus 2 - Thank You Amazon - Essential supplies have arrived.
