Waiting for the Start of the Orgy

In the "Polite Society" part of Boston, it was unthinkable for anyone to start having fun at the Christmas Orgy until the Carol-Singers had finished their performance.

Until then, it was a case of enjoy a glass of punch, and some "Spanish Fly".

Then .... let the debauchery start.

Goin' Fishing with Me Buds

As mention (many times) Americans seem to have an obsession with posing with their catches after a day fishing.

This is different. This seems to be before the fishing expedition, and shows the Good Ship Buddy, ready for a day fishin' and downing them brewskis.

Bonus - Where Helium was First Discovered

Bonus 2 - (relevant) Creative Art.

Must Have Very Small Pilots

Today's slide was marked as "Hawk Towyn 1980",and even without that I'm sure you recognised the shape and lines of a BAE Hawk Trainer aircraft.

More specifically, a radio controlled scale model of one. And dating from before the days of scale model jet engines (notice the disguised propeller on the nose?)

Mountain Stream, Hirnant

Not every slide deserves ridicule or mocking.

This is a nice little image of a mountain stream, which seems to be in the region of Hirnant (judging by the composition of the stones and quality of teh water.)

The Majestic American Bison

Not so much a Tedious Tuesday slide, more of a completely underwhelming slide. Those could be anything, really.

The American Plains Bison (technically Bison bison bison) has seen a welcome in the past few decades. In the past, well, America does love a good slaughter.

Bonus : As a complete contrast, something totally over whelming.  Talking Heads.  "Stop Making Sense."  Remastered in 4K. The Whole Show. Free.

ENJOY!

Going for that "Our Man In Havana" look.

Today's slide features that racy couple Brian and Phyllis Leadbetter, who appear to be emulating the seventies cliche' ambassador in the Caribbean look. And Brian very nearly carries it off, spoiling it with a Hepworth's Brown Argyle kipper tie.

Phyllis, however is quite successful, achieving the mousy wife look, despite the handicap of being an undercover SAS Soldier.

Yes, "Phyllis" is a he, and preparing for some secret operation at Her Majesty's Command.

Before Crazy Golf Went Crazy

This is the championship course for the 1965 PCGA event, and was criticised by Wilbur Watson ( then-US Crazy Golf defending champion) as "A bit too out-there for my liking".  He won anyway.

Compare that with modern crazy golf course, and... well. There's just no comparison.

Bonus - Yep, it's been Hot  ... and spicy.

Pizza Party

The observant of you will have noticed that this slide does not feature any pizzas.  In fact, I do not recall seeing any 35mm slides featuring pizzas.  Strange, I know, but that';s life.  Maybe pizzas didn't exist before the digital camera age.

Perhaps these Americans in their back yard are waiting for the evening, when the pizza oven will be fired up, for an evening of bread/tomato/cheese related cuisine.

Just like me. Tonight. With my chums. Yay !

The Yukon Baptism

Here we have Johannes Winkel, with his grandparents Victor and Vonda Vinkvogel, at Johannes' Yukon Baptism.

That's the term for the naming ceremony performed by the Bavarian enclave in the Canadian Yukon.  The child is through into the Yukon River, 3 miles upstream of the church, and the babe is fished out at the church by the minister to be baptised.

To be captured by bears during teh three-mile float is consider to be very lucky (for the bear.)

Bonus - Monkey Pox. Blame Ben Ryan.

Do You See Yonder Mountain?

"Yes, the pointy one in the far distance."

"Well, if you're one of them Anti-Vax, COVIDiots, kindly FLUB OFF there"

"Yes, All the way there."

"And when you get there, FLUB OFF in the same direction, for the same distance."

"And stay there, you utter waste of sperm."

(Yes, I did encounter one of these morons today.)

At The Beach

Yesterday was the hottest day in the UK, since records began, so today has turned out a little cooler. Thank goodness.

So, it might be tempting to head for the beach for a dip in the ocean, and an overpriced ice cream.

Low Hanging Cloud

At first glance, I thought that this was a photographic error - some light crept into the lower half of the slide film. But, on closer examination...No! it's some low-hanging, dense cloud.

On the slide was the word "Sani", and while it doesn't scream "Greece" to me, it's the best guess of a location that I can give.

All Aboard The Chuff-Chuff.

Based upon the absolutely cryptic message on the slide : "Talyllyn Rly", I have made the logical leap to guess that this might be The Talyllyn Railway Company, in Snowdonia.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Sunset over Stonehaven

This slide may be marked as "Sunset over Stonehaven", but  I have my doubts whether this is actually the East Coast of Scotland (and home of the Deep Fried Mars Bar.)

Nice, tho'

A nice smiley picture for a sunny, hot weekend.

Bear In A Dumpster

It's difficult to be creative with these Blog Post Titles, especially when the subject is a bear. Probably a Brown Bear.  In or maybe on, a dumpster.  With some trees in the background.

Tho it does remind me of the challenge of designing bear-proof containers. The locker mechanisms needed to be simple enough for a human to open, but too complicated for a bear to manipulate. This presented a bit of a design challenge because, according to a (possibly apocryphal) quote from a Park Ranger, "There is considerable overlap between the intelligence of the smartest bears and the dumbest tourists."

Is it a boat? Is it a ship?

No ... It's a Floating Restaurant.

Thanks to Google (other search engines are available) I was able to confirm that this is The Oceania Floating Restaurant, probably from it's time moored in Honolulu (Hawaii, USA)

Fascinating

Weir Meet Again

This was a very dark slide. Actually, a VERY dark slide. So, it too a fair bit of image manipulation to extract an identifiable images.

Sure, if the photographer kept this slide, the image must have some importance.

Alas, not.

A Little Japanese Girl

Today's slide... well, you can figure it out yourself.

Or maybe I'll be accused for cultural imperialism, as it might be a little Korean Boy. I don't really know.

But, I can't figure out what she is holding. Two blue Macaroons? Yo-yos?  Amazon Alexa Dot things?

Bonus - More importantly, Wash Your Ass.

The Mountain Giant

In the remote parts of the Waranga Mountain Range (in Australia) lives Fintin O'Tool, the famed "Waranga Mountain Giant". Fintin is now 124 years old, but since birth, hasn't stopped growing. In in this 1960 slide, he was 160 feet tall, but recent sighting suggest he is closer to 250 ft tall now.

Alas, Aussie clothing manufacturers no longer think that making custom outsize clothing for him is worthwhile publicity, so that past decade of sighting have been of a nude Fintin.... his massive todger flopping about when he runs.

The Australian Wind Farm Conglomerate are looking to employ Fintin as a Wind Turbine maintenance technician.

Saturday By The Pool.

From the "Travels around South America" box of slides, and dated 1984.

Hmmmm.  Crappy quality.

Where In ... France

You'll know the story by now. A rather interesting slide, but with no date, location or information.

It certainly looks like it's been taken in France,  but can you work out exactly where?

Clues a-plenty from the signposts, but...it's not always as easy as you expect.

My Answer - Here and with the adjacent image (Very small thumbnail). Do you agree?

We have a match

As summer sunshine results in a dip in Blog Visitor numbers (daily visits are bellow 100,000 per day. WELL below.) I suppose no-one will complain if I have a few Punny Titles.

So, today's slide is another "Huh?  Why photograph that?" slide.

Yee Ha!

Today is Independence Day

The day when Great Britain celebrates the ejection of the crime-ridden bunch of separatists, religious nutters and tax-dodgers who made up our West Atlantic Colonies. Definitely the right decision.

Another Sunny Summer Sunday, and the perfect occasion to just beside the water and watch the world go by.

Obviously, I've had some fun, working back from this image to a real-world location. Can you?  I think it is here.

At The Fulchester County Fayre

Yes, today is the day of the Funchestershire County Fayre, so I dug out this slide from a previous event. An aroused young man is admiring the fillies depicted in the tableaux, while Professor Blumpkin's Marvelous Orchestra Seam Organ is pumping away in the background. (Professor B is shown bottom right, exhausted from his efforts.

Excellent entertainment for the kiddies.
