Easter Sunday - Bonnets and Church

It's Easter Sunday, so that means dress the kids up in their finest clobber, with bonnets for the girls, obviously, and off to church for a boring sermon on Jesus and the imminent Communist threat to Bogtown in Idaho.

The Little Colonists

I have a bunch of similar slides in this set...clearly a family vacation, visiting one of the early colonial towns. Georgetown, or Williamsburg, or whatever.

I can only imagine what the costumed host is thinking, especially as this was in the early sixties.

Bonus - So, those kids who torture ants with sun + magnifying glass. What do they do when they grow older?

I'll just leave this here, and leave

No idea what this is, and I suspect I don't WANT to know what this is.

It's from the Medical Slides box, and ...well. I suppose it could be a Album Cover for an LP by Throbbing Gristle. Maybe.

Bonus - Also on a theme of Yeuch.   Aphex Twin's Windowlicker is 25 years old.

Devils Lake, Wis South End 1956

It's nice when a slide has a written description, and I'm guessing that Wis is short for Wisconsin.

Devil's Lake is a lake in the South Range of the Baraboo Range, about two miles south of Baraboo, Wisconsin, in Sauk County, Wisconsin, United States. It has no surface outlets, so by some definitions, it is endorheic; however, it possibly drains by underground channels into the Baraboo River, which would make the lake cryptorheic.

Go outside and play with your cardboard box

The Seventies were a different time.

It didn't matter if it was a bright but chilly February, when Uncle Bob visited your mum, you want outside to play with your favourite box.

First image is what you would see .... as a human. Yup. Very Boring.

Second Version is the same image, as viewed by a Crawshaw's Salamander. That's an odd little amphibian, which uniquely, sees images not in RedYellowBlue, but in MauveWhitePaisleyLemon.

Ryan, filling the Diving Pool

There's quite a few pictures of this pool, in various states of empty/fullness.

This one ... is today's.

Sorry,  I'm not very talkative today - Overnight, my right know seems to have decided to experience extreme pain for any motions.

"Beat Girl"

This slide from 1964 had a note on it "Me in Waterlow Park".

Not me, as in this blogger, obviously.

This girl certainly looks "beat", so I'm guessing she had a suitably fitting name - Flip or Kath, or Mizzy.

Nice.

The Escarpment

An escarpment is a steep slope or long cliff that forms as a result of faulting or erosion and separates two relatively level areas having different elevations.

The terms scarp and scarp face are often used interchangeably with escarpment. Some sources differentiate the two terms, with escarpment referring to the margin between two landforms, and scarp referring to a cliff or a steep slope. In this usage an escarpment is a ridge which has a gentle slope on one side and a steep scarp on the other side.

Whoa!, I'm Gonna To Ibiza

It's been a while since the last "School Holiday At Easter" slide, so here's one from 51 years ago.  The  Easter 1973 Trip to Ibiza."

However, this one looks more like the pre departure, pale skin version of Thora and Margaret.

I've never yet figured out which school it was - so if you recognise any of these girls...please get in touch.

School Field Trip to Dove Valley

Some lovely girls on a school trip to the Dove Valley, back in 1970. Whether it was for a geography project, or just as a day out .... who know?

In response to very nearly one comment, yesterday's meal out at Seven was fine.  Good food, but a bit noisy for an old fart like me, and a PITA prepubescent waiter who had a sky high opinion of themselves.

Bonus - Security...
