Footy Frenzy

Finally, the 2010 World Cup is here, and oh boy, am I excited. Engerland have a marvelous chance to do as well as they usually do - through the Group Stages and then out once they face reasonable sides.

 So, I thought I'd post something vaguely appropriate - spotty English teenagers, kicking about a football on a patch of dust.

Sensible Corner. There seems to be an outburst of anti-USA stuff in the newspapers at the moment. Surely this couldn't be related to tomorrow's England v USA footie match, and some lingering resentment from the past??

Engineer's Corner. The anti-BP rhetoric regarding the Deepwater Horizon, reminds me of the Petrobas P-36 event. This PPT slide show is interesting and food for thought to all cost-cutters. Win-Win !

An odd picture this. Young lad staring straight at the camera, and what I notice is his asymmetric mouth and nose.   A pugilst perhaps.

He lives in that van, dining on roadkill and critters. In the evening, he likes nothing more that a bit of posing on his plinth. Next year, he plans to depose Barack Obama by defeating him in a race to Dead Dog Farm and back.

Anyone else remember the mid 70's fashion for "Weeping Child" paintings ? Anyone recall the curse stories?  People would buy these horrible artworks, and find that their house would burn down. Or their wife would leave the. Or their cat would catch rabies. Or maybe their neighbours' au-pair would break a tea cup.

This painting of or by Phoebe seems to fit in that genre. And, spookily, since owning this slide I have developed a fondness for Danish Blue cheese !  The curse works in mysterious ways.

A Scottish Summer

Farmer Mart, outside Goodman & Jester

A nice little slice of everyday life. Looks like some local farmers are selling their produce at an impromptu farmers' mart, on a pleasant sunny spring morning.

Goodman & Jesters - Google suggests it was a department store in Columbus Ohio, and by the look of the cars, this was taken in the mid-to-late 1950's.
